Who: Binx and Sarah Williams (and anyone else)
What: Sarah finds a cat and Binx gets a new home.
When: Night
Where: Outside the Hyperion
Rating: PG
Binx currently knew two things. One: This was in no way, shape or form, what Heaven was supposed to look like. And two: He was hungry enough to eat an already dead rat, as disgusting as that sounded. If finally dying and coming back (again) resulted in the lucky person (or animal) being this hungry, then Binx wasn’t so sure if he liked this whole dying thing, or maybe it was the returning to the land of the living thing that he didn’t like.
The Hyperion was the first building to rise up out of the starless backdrop of the city. It was the first thing he saw when he landed on all fours, on the side of a road covered in racing cars and trucks that blew their exhausts into the cool air. The hotel was the object of the cat’s new goal and Binx sat down and stared at it from a distance, swishing his long black tail back and forth while he considered his options.
Hotels had people and people always had food. Sometimes, if you sat pretty and meowed just the right way, they would offer you some of that food. If they liked you enough, they would kneel down and pat you on the head and scratch behind the ears. Binx liked it when they did that. Sitting in that stupid little museum, watching a candle for hundreds of years, Binx hadn’t been used to being lavished with attention until the kids had come along and taken him with them.
He thought of Dani as he took his chance and sprinted off across the pavement. His ears caught the painfully boisterous sound of a blaring car horn and Binx opened his mouth in an annoyed hiss. Humans could be so impatient at times. He would know, he had been one once, a long time ago.
His ears perked back up and Binx was near the entrance, gazing up at the door with bright yellow eyes. He had never lowered himself to begging before, but this odd circumstance called for doing the unthinkable. He was lost and hungry and he was a cat again. He should have been with his sister.
Standing on his hind legs, Binx put his paws to the door and scraped them against the solid surface.
If that wasn’t adorable, he didn’t know what was.
