WHO: Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) and OPEN!!!! (that means YOU)
WHAT: Surveying the surreal damage
WHERE: Pretty close to the Hyperion, on the roof edge of a building.
WHEN: Evening, not that it matters since it's all foggy and twilight-y
RATING: TBD and In progress (she IS in costume, btw)
Ever since her team resuced her (a feat she was still inordinately proud of them for), Diana had been at loose ends. Here, in this city, she didn't have the same resources she was used to, and while that was enough to create a challenge, she felt the connection to this world less and less all the time. It was a place where the JL was simply one of many teams, very few of whom worked together well with the exception of AI. And every day, more confused, lost, and upset people filled the streets. She'd begun to fear that they might never be helped, never be saved from the nightly depredations. How many people had fallen through the cracks already? What more could she accomplish here?
Sighing, she perched on the edge of the apartment building, her hearing attuned to the sounds below. The eerie quiet was broken only by the occasional white noise, or the sickening sound of a wet, dragging limp. All those before she'd encountered were long dead, and there was nothing she could do for them. For a while, she'd tried putting them down humanely, giving them some peace perhaps, but it took so much to end them that surely the trauma was enough. After that, she merely caught them and tossed them into the incinerator at the waste treatment plant downtown. It was the quickest way, and it preserved those left unharmed.
She didn't need to tell the JL to patrol, or to aid people...they all did that anyway. They were a true team, helping one another, relying on the other's strengths. The one person she had yet to come to terms with was Bart; older now, more assured, markedly different from the one she'd gotten used to. And this Bart she had never met before; in her world, he died a teenager, gloriously in battle but still far too young. It was taking some getting used to. And from Lois' brief conversations since Diana had arrived back, Diana suspected Bart had found someone important to spend his time with. She didn't as yet know who, but she was glad he had something like that in this world.
For now, all she could do was patrol, and meditate. There had to be more that she could do for this blighted place..
