WHO: Alexander and Delia York WHAT: Brother and sister reunite. WHEN: Not long after this. WHERE: Random internet cafe RATING: TBD STATUS: In Progress
From the moment she'd stepped foot inside the internet cafe, Delia hadn't liked the woman working behind the counter. She didn't like the expression on her face, the way she spoke, or the clothes she wore. In fact, there wasn't a single likable quality about the woman as far as the little girl was concerned.
So it was no real upset to her when, less than five minutes after Alex had promised he was on his way to get her, the woman was the victim of a rather vicious robbery. In fact, Delia didn't even bat an eye when the robber stabbed the woman in the chest, nor when he ultimately slit her throat before fleeing the scene (with very little in the way of money or any real memory of the event, unfortunately for him).
No, rather than become hysterical like most of the other patrons, the nine-year-old simply watched from her computer as the woman bled out on the floor of the cafe. It was only the sounds of approaching sirens that roused the girl from her vigil, and even then just long enough for her to grab her coat and make her way toward the exit.
Sitting on the curb, looking every bit the part of a little girl who was staying out of the way, Delia watched with emotionless brown eyes as the paramedics and police rushed past her and into the building. She heard snippets of their conversation. Something about 'losing her' and 'flatlining'.
A few moments later they carried the woman out on a stretcher, her body covered by a thin sheet. Delia, meanwhile, drew her knees to her chest and gazed out at the street in search of her brother. For her, there was no more interest to be found in the scene. The mean woman was gone now. She wouldn't be looking at anyone like that ever again.
