He wished that his sister had come with him. She would have known exactly what to make of this man claiming to be their father, and she would have told him if he’d made the right decision in giving away his location. Alone, with only Hunter for company, Alexander had to admit to his loneliness. He had never been without his sister and her loss of company hit him harder than a brick being hurled at his chest. It hadn’t been long since his arrival, but knowing that he would be forced to stay there was enough to make him want Delia.
Delia was the only person in the world who understood him and her absence would hurt. Since the day Karen had brought him home from the hospital, believing in her heart that he was her son, it was her adoptive daughter who had looked down at him with the greatest amount of affection, and it was so intense that their “mother” had witnessed it in absolute terror.
In the days to come, Alexander would feel follow without her.
The branch of a tree lining the sidewalk quivered and threatened to snap in two when Alexander came out through the door. To his left, a trashcan fell over and hit the ground harshly, and to his right a stray cat beheld him and arched its back, hissed and took off in the opposite direction. He ignored all of the building commotion and waited with his hands held behind his back.
His intimidating stance would be enough to scare most people away. It wouldn’t work on Damien, and Alexander was counting on that.
