Peter leaned in, lifting his chin and stretching his neck to place a kiss on the underside of Sarah's jaw. "I know you don't want power," he said, keeping the soothing circular motions with his fingers against her hips. "I don't want you to be like me. I don't want you to give up the life you're living. I know it's not fair."
Oh, yes. He knew how unfair it could be. That's what made it harder to say. "There's no one else to take this. I would if I could, so you wouldn't have to." He knew how to handle it now, at least.
