When she opened her eyes to find herself not in her glade, she nearly immediately panicked. The last time she'd wakened in a strange place, she'd been kidnapped by Mommy Fortuna---so it wasn't so strange to think that she'd immediately assume the worst had happened. But no, there was no one else around at all, and she was lying on what looked like some kind of strange rock. There were tall human buildings around on either side, and the smell was odd and foul.
Where.. am I? she wondered, and rose unsteadily to her feet, hooves scuffing at the ground uncertainly. How did this happen? Where should I go from here? And how, most of all, would she get home without Schmendrick and Molly near?
Cantering backwards as something rose suddenly, growling, out of the shadows, she gave a high-pitched, startled whinny, horn glowing dangerously against her brow. --The thing, whatever it was, flinched back at the sight of it, and she turned quickly and made a break for it..
Only to emerge into a world she'd never before imagined. Noises, and huge metal objects on wheels hurtling down the same oddly-textured stone (or mortar?), and humans staring and panicking as if they'd never seen a unicorn before in their lives. But they had to have, right? She'd freed her people from the Red Bull!
Rearing back on her hind legs in alarm, she heard familiar words echoing in the air around her--- and suddenly, she was shrinking, her body turning awkward and soft and fragile. Mortal. Dropping nude to her knees, long hair falling around her suddenly-human body, Amalthea gave a long, shuddering sob, fingers curling around her shoulders as if to protect herself from the stares of the humans around her.
"Why!" she demanded, tears rolling down her pale face, "Why this body again! I-- I'm not a human! I'm not!"
