Technology. Each of them had moved with the times, as they could. Scarlet had heat-seeking missiles and computer-tracking defense systems. Sable had his thin, thin, thin microprocessors and a hundred different machines to count calories, nutrients, and the decline of each. Their lord had never had use for it, and so ignored any advances. For Pollution, the beauty was in the breakdown.
A hundred thousand purifiers. Each one distilling twenty gallons of water a minute. Cleaning, purifying, and then oxygenating and fluoriding the water that was distributed into the city. A pale hand ran over the crown settled on his head. As he stroked the tarnished silver, a hundred thousand purifiers choked and died. Two million gallons of water every minute, carrying a billion different bacterias, toxins, microorganisms, and parasites, was headed into Los Angeles.
There was the blare of a klaxon as the safety system began to announce the danger. Pollution glared at it, tapping his fingers against the crown, and the machine died quietly. The danger would be undetected for hours. It was a good way to start off his day.
Over the morning, Pollution visited both major aqueducts, and all 8 water storage facilities that catered to the city of Los Angeles. By dinnertime, all the city hospitals were overwhelmed by patients, complaining of dozens of different ailments.
