It was a good thing that Toby could talk to Peter without talking out loud to him, becuase at the moment verbally speaking was out of the question. His throat already felt the burning prickle that normally came with trying to repress tears, and he knew if he so much as opened his mouth the sound that would come out wouldn't be one that was at all brave.
And that was exactly what made Peter a superhero to Toby, his bravery. He had powers, yes, but he was just so unblinkingly brave when faced with things like this. He went from worrying about a city to Sarah and back again, and even had time to be the nicest guy in the world to an eleven year old boy who needed him. He all but clung to Peter. Now that Mr. Bennet was here to take care of Claire, he wanted to be inside, away from the offending bit of concrete.
I want to learn how to be brave like you. I want to learn what to do if another bad guy comes after Claire. She said that she couldn't die, but I don't want them to hurt her anyway. Or Sarah. Seeing one man die brought new realizations to Toby. If Jareth could die, and he was a horrible terrifying bad man, then Sarah could too.
