Claire shook her head at Toby. "He wouldn't have, because I can't die," she admitted quietly, then looked back at the spot. Peter. She hadn't thought to call out to Peter when Jareth morphed back to his own body, she'd been so focused on protecting Toby and stopping the Goblin King.
Before the call to Peter could form entirely, her dad was there. Claire still didn't drop the gun, but clung to him with her other arm as fiercely as she could.
"He followed us home, he was going to take Toby, I knew it, I had to do something because he was going to hurt him, so I shot him, Dad, I shot him, and he died, I thought he died, he was dead on the ground, and then he was gone." She realized she was babbling, so she closed her mouth and pressed her face against his chest, waiting for the urge to pass so she could explain more coherently.
