She was really going to have to stop making a habit of this. Bella didn't go out often in the day by herself, but there were times when she just needed to get out. She always wished she could have Edward with her, but given that it was sunny LA, it just wasn't possible. So when she went out on her own, she always tried to make it back to the apartment before the sun set. She had only missed once, and today was looking like number two. Bella was a few blocks away from the apartment as the sun was going down. She didn't expect to see Edward out until he knew it was safe, and it probably wouldn't be fully dark until she got home. The streets weren't overly busy, everyone had some place to be. Those who came out during the day were going home, those who preferred the night were still probably getting ready come out. But it wasn't the people so much that worried her, it was more the vampires. The vampires that were nothing like the man she loved who as back at their home.
Bella was hurrying along the sidewalk, trying to pay extra attention to her feet so she didn't fall, again. She was lost in her own thoughts about what it was they were going to be doing for the rest of the night. Mostly she was just looking forward to getting back to Edward, when she nearly ran right into someone. Bella stopped, steadying herself just before she fell onto her backside. Raising her head, she looked up, and up, unto the face of a man who was smiling down at her. There was something about the smile that made her nervous. "Sorry." she muttered, moving to step around him. He moved with her, and she froze.
Eyes going wide she took a step back, and he moved with her. She took two more steps back, and bumped into another person. Spinning, she found another imposingly tall man behind her, who also moved closer. The two of them moved, keeping her trapped between them, and the aly that was no behind her. Then their faces shifted, twisted, and she found herself looking at two mouths full of fangs. Her head flew in the direction of the sun, and then she realized that the sun wasn't touching this part of the street. Oh crap. She thought, and then she fled. The only way she had to go was down the ally, which was stupid. But her other options were running into Vampire A, or Vampire B. She chose the ally, of course with her luck, there's be more of them down there waiting.
It was only a few seconds before Bella found herself trapped against a wall. Spinning, she pressed her back against the bricks, watching the vampires approach her. She looked around, for anyway out. The only way was up over the wall, and Bella couldn't jump that high. How was it that she always found herself in this situation? She really was a magnet for trouble. Where was Edward? Had Alice seen this? Was Edward picking up on the thoughts of the two vampires infront of her? They weren't that far from the apartment...
Her breathing increased when the two vampires closed in on her. When they were over her, she gave one last attempt, to duck under them and run. She got two steps, and then she was flying. Next thing she knew, she was crashing against the brick wall. A painful cry escaped her lips, and a sharp pain shot through her body, from both her right arm, and from her head. She slid down the wall, her vision blackening. For a moment, she sat there, trying to focus. She was aware of the pain, and the wet, warm sensation that was slowing dripping down her head. She had felt that before, from the last time she had been attacked by a vampire, much different from the ones advancing on her.
One of them came closer, crouching down beside her. He grabbed her by her shoulders, hoisting her to her feet, which only brought more pain to her right shoulder. If it wasn't shattered before, it sure was now. Her head fell back, and she managed to open her eyes, just in time to see the first vampire bringing his face to her neck. She closed her eyes, unable to move any other body part, and tried to brace herself for the pain. Though it did her little good. Having only two teeth sink in didn't make it any less painful. She didn't scream though. She tried to struggle, but it did her little could, she couldn't move.
Her head began to spin, she was losing too much blood. She knew she wasn't going to last much longer. She began to fade, losing consciousness, Edward's face came to her memory, and she felt a swell of love, and regret. She was sorry she was going to be leaving him here alone. She hadn't had enough time, it wasn't fair. She only hoped he would be OK, that he would be able to move on from this. I love you... she thought, as she felt her body grow slowly limp.
