"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Anton read, and smiled to himself. It was one of the many passages in the book he had marked over the seven or so times he'd read through it. He hoped that by giving his prison-library copy of Thoreau's Walden to Michael, he would be opening up an avenue of discussion between them. He was pleased with having been befriended by Michael and Allison, by becoming a part of their team. But he wasn't sure how to communicate effectively with them as yet.
Anton still found himself confused by many aspects of being in the future. Understandable, he assured himself, since he had only been here a scant few days. But there were so many wonders - and so many things to look out for. He had discovered that the internet was indeed for porn - much to his embarrassment , and that one could not in fact die from Google. Yesterday he had spent a good portion of the day watching the 'television' ( a device that seemed to him a hybrid of movies and radio). He was fascinated by the variety of entertainment the television box offered - comedies, dramas, cartoons, news shows. The future was certainly a wondrous place. After a while, he had found The History channel - and spent a good portion of the day watching documentaries on his own time. This too he wanted to discuss with Michael.
Anton'd chosen his room carefully to be right next door to that of his new friend, so it was a short trip out into the hallway. Dressed in his new casual future-clothes, he stood and knocked politely on the door. He hoped the Scout was within.
