His grin returned, although this time it was heartfelt - not an attempt to anger her. He walked back to her, and for a brief moment allowed the old Gambit charm to resurface.

He opened his arms, and embraced her. In his heart, he knew this wasn't a goodbye...at least not completely. He had plenty of friends back in their home-world, but that was far from the case here, and it would be foolish to shut the door on any of them forever. Still, he also he couldn't stay. There was no place for him in Elisabeth's new "situation," especially given his feelings of guilt. If he himself didn't believe he deserved to be around her right now, what help could be possibly be?
