This was definitely not Little Hangleton. Merope had heard stories of London, of the way that it was built up and pretty much encased the whole area in buildings and roads, but she had never expected to actually lay her eyes on a city like this. It was...mind boggling. She wasn't much to look at as she wandered the streets, keeping her eyes level and not focused on the ground. It didn't seem like a very good idea for her not to watch where she was going in this place, especially considering everyone seemed to be in quite a bit of a hurry.
She wasn't much to look at, and as such, was quietly thankful that she wasn't drawing much attention herself. Her clothing were little more than well and repeatedly patched rags, and her hair hung limply around her face, pulled back in her haste to keep it from getting in her way, but she was clean. It was one of the things that she had made sure of as soon as her father and brother were not around to demand her constant attention. She always made sure that she was clean. She might not have been much, but she would at least be presentable.
Pausing as the sidewalk ended, Merope swallowed heavily as she glanced left and right, not seeing any of those horrible metal carriages before stepping into the road to cross the street...only to hear a blaring horn and having to scramble backwards to keep from being plowed down. Blinking owlishly at the road as the truck drove off into the distance, Merope sighed as she moved to push herself back to her feet. Not the first time she'd had to jump out of the road to avoid being hit, but the horses were usually smart enough to slowdown if someone was standing in front of them.
