It was just like waking up. The little girl stirred, brown eyes opening slowly, unwillingly, before coming into focus. Then, as if a strike of lightening had hit her tiny frame, she sat bolt upright, hands gripping the sides of the cold lab table on which she sat.
This wasn’t home, wasn’t her bed. The items in the room were foreign to her, the glare of the overhead lighting a shock to her system. The room was lacking in windows, but bright as day, as if the fixtures attached to the ceiling each contained a little bit of sunlight. Coupled with the furniture--silver in color, made primarily of a hard, shiny material--it was unlike anything she had ever seen before.
Bewilderment claimed her features, and she looked down, surveying herself. She was dressed in a white lace gown, a garment that her mother would never have allowed her to wear on a typical day. Utterly disoriented, she tried to call out to her mother, her father, her brother…but found that no sound would come.
