She broke into laughter, grinning. "Oh, don't play innocent with me, Kent number three." She was actually teasing him. And strangely, it felt good.
She stopped just outside the door of the Daily Press, and held her left hand up, calling attention to the diamond engagement ring there.
Her grin slipped into a slow, sad smile. "We were engaged." she whispered, softly, almost so softly, that if he really hadn't been a Superman, he wouldn't have heard her. "And the day he put this ring on my finger... he told me everything." The smile grew again, only slightly. "Too bad for him I'd already figured it out."
