"Bleep bleeeep bloop!"
"What do you mean it won't hurt? Honestly, Artoo. Sometimes I really think you ought to have your wiring checked out. You don't make sense. Sometimes you make sense. But most of the time you say the strangest things and I can't make any comprehension of it all. And I'm a protocol droid, fluent in over six million forms of communication. If anyone should be able to understand you, it would be me," Threepio insisted as he paced back and forth in Luke's room.
Things had been a little stressful between the two droids since Luke's disappearance. Of course, not stressful in the sense that humans felt stress, just a little, well, heated. Heated circuitry was the best way to describe it. Since droids, naturally, didn't get upset. Not really upset. Although, there were times when it seemed that Threepio was more human than most humans. But that was more of him just being frustrated or confused.
Artoo, on the other hand, didn't take things as seriously as his protocol counterpart. Yes, he was worried about Master Luke. But he didn't bust his bolts over the man's disappearance. He understood that Master Luke disappeared for a reason. And he would be back. Naturally! Master Luke always came back. And if he didn't? Well, then Artoo would move on to his next Master. He would miss Luke, in the only way a droid could miss a human, but he wouldn't perform any less of his best because of the change.
Threepio didn't react well to change. Sometimes Artoo wondered if that was a common trait of most protocol droids. Astrodroids weren't like that at all. They were brave and daring!
"Beep boop?"
"No, I am most certainly not alright, Artoo! What has happened to Master Luke? I just don't understand. One moment he's here, the next he's gone, and you're acting like that's normal!"
"Blurrrp."
"Oh, none of this makes any sense! I should just crawl in a corner and rust!"
"Bleeeooo-brap!"
Threepio slumped down on the side of Luke's bed. Not an action he was accustomed to doing, but his joints were getting worn by pacing back and forth across the room for hours.
"Was it something I did? Oh, I knew it. I drove him off! Artoo, you really ought to leave me. I'm no use to you and I'm no use to anyone. I'm a waste of parts. Go on without me, Artoo. You'll do better that way."
If Artoo had eyes, he would have been rolling them. Threepio was so melodramatic. He rolled over to the side of the bed that Threepio was on and nudged him in the leg.
"Go on, my friend! Go! Please! Before I change my mind! I can't go on any longer. And you are so strong and--"
This conversation was going nowhere. So Artoo released his charge arm and gave Threepio a mini electric shock, causing Threepio to deactivate on response and slump over onto the floor. He supposed he could have used his droid deactivating device, but that wouldn't have been any fun. (And there was a little bit of a trickster in Artoo! Little robot monster.) Then Artoo attached his grabbling hook and magnet to Threepio's shoulder and began dragging him out of the room, down the stairs (clunk clunk CLUNK!) and out the front door.
