"Mommy, why couldn't we go the fast way?"
"Now you know your father doesn't like for us to do that," Samantha admonished her daughter as they walked down the street. "Besides, it looks like we might be here for awhile longer, so it's going to be best if we know our way around."
"Daddy's not here," Tabitha replied with an unfortunately valid point. "I'm tired."
Samantha sighed. She looked down at the instructions in her hand which she'd copied down from the computer screen and then at the street sign just ahead. If everything worked out then they were only about a block away from the hotel at this point. With that in mind, Samantha stooped over quickly and picked up the four year old. She was light enough and Samantha knew it wouldn't kill her to oblige Tabitha's request. The little girl had been remarkably well behaved thus far and she knew that eventually she would begin to whine and the sound of it would start to grate. Best to cut it off at the quick.
She couldn't help but feel guilty when after her daughter's head was resting on her shoulder she raised a hand and with a wave transported them both the rest of the way. Her mother would have been all too happy with the amount of magic she'd been employing over the past week or so.
"Told you so," Tabitha said. They stood in front of a large building that looked more in place with her own time than this one. Samantha assumed it had been built long ago.
She hoisted her daughter up again, adjusting her grip before taking steps towards the front door and into the lobby.
