WHO: Annie Wheaton, 'Sister' Wheaton, Peter Petrelli, and Nathan Petrelli
WHAT: Feeling the effects of the sudden silent epidemic.
WHEN: Right after the silence takes effect.
WHERE: Annie's room at the Hyperion
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress
At first, Rachel didn't realize anything was amiss. Later, in retrospect, she would realize that she should have known something was wrong the second the rumbling started. She should have known - California or not - that Annie was the cause of the 'earthquake'. She should have... but she didn't. And it wasn't until the first boulder slammed into the pavement just outside the partially-opened bedroom window that she finally started putting two and two together.
Her attention snapped up from the book she'd been reading, to the window, then immediately across the bedroom to her sister. Instantly she was on her feet, Annie's name on her lips.
Except nothing came out.
Frowning, Rachel pressed a hand to her throat and tried speaking again. Again, there was nothing. Eyes widening, she looked to Annie and held up both hands in a silent 'what now' sort of gesture. The assumption that her sister was to blame for her sudden inability to speak, after all, was as natural of a conclusion as seeing a storm cloud and calling for rain.
Yet it was obvious that Annie wasn't to blame, at least not intentionally. Her stance in the middle of her bedroom floor, her eyes wide with horror and her mouth open in a scream that was as silent as Rachel suddenly found herself to be were all indications that she was as much a victim of this as her sister was. The ground trembled again as the girl's obvious terror grew and Rachel stumbled across it, trying in vain to scream for someone to help. The bedroom door slammed open then shut, open then shut, in a rapid-fire succession.
Having finally reached her sister, Rachel wrapped her arms tightly around the younger girl and drew her in close. Keeping her own fear at bay as much as possible, she simply held the trembling girl and petted her hair. Yet for all of her ministrations the door continued its erratic display, the ground continued to shake (with the walls and ceiling beginning to follow suit), and large boulders continued to crash to the ground outside. Never once did they hit the hotel, but they were already beginning to line the street and Rachel knew, if this wasn't stopped soon, it was only a matter of time before Annie made her displeasure even more noticeable or possibly decided to 'fix' this latest problem herself. Honestly, Rachel wasn't certain which idea was more horrific, but she really didn't want to see either one play out.
The problem was, how did you call for help when no one could hear you speak? Helpless, terrified for her sister, and scared to the point of near tears that they were going to die right then and there, Rachel simply clung to Annie tightly... and prayed for help to arrive before it was too late.
