However, the killer had no motive for theft... and the eyes of the cowled demon bore down on the city. Its ears heard the silent alarm, adjusting the volume with a swift hand.
A ragged man had entered the museum, a window left ajar by the final shift. A designed theft left little traces for the Los Angeles Police Department, whose hands were tied.
The thing in the costume felt the pulse of the thief quicken as he stumbled.
Skies darkened as the moon passed through a haze of black clouds. The beast perched atop the landscape, preparing for the great dive; its eyes caught another figure.
The sleek, feminine shape slid silently atop the roof of the museum and out of sight. Gloved fingers adjusted the lenses, catching the end of a disappearing boot.
A wave of disgust rose inside the monster as he recognized the second...
...they were in love...
...once.
The time to renew their relationship had come. The thing dove downward from the skyscraper into a violent fall. Outstretched wings formed from the great cape, allowing maximum glide. Its eyes saw the face of the first thief through the second floor window.
A black cloud exploded through the window and enveloped the thief; his scream drowned by terrible violence. The blow to the chin was swift, and the thief lay in the corner unconscious.
