Who: Clark [open]
Where: Hyperion lobby
What: Reading
When: Afternoon
Rating: PG, for the moment

-------

Clark was in the lobby area, sitting on that circular slab of concrete near the middle of the room. He was planning to go out patrolling soon. Not at the moment, but after the sun had set? He would leave for a couple hours, maybe see if anyone in the city needed rescuing, or if any more vampires were interested in being on the wrong side of his heat vision.

He hoped he wouldn't have to run into Exar Kun anytime soon, either. He remembered that fight, saw what the evil being was capable of. It reminded him of the criminals he'd encountered from the Phantom Zone, who were quite potentially dangerous since they were not from Earth.

Clark did enjoy spending time around Diana, Kara, and anyone else in the League. Though he was also a member of Angel Investigations as well. That was a busy job, but he couldn't complain. Their work was important. So, he would help the cause by going out maybe once a night, or a couple times during the day.

He was currently reading through some pages in Swann's journal, which was written completely in the glyphic diagrams that he knew as Kryptonian, the language of his native homeworld. He occasionally glanced through the doors, taking note of the sun's location in the sky. He supposed it'd be a few hours until night would fall...

Mac came back from being outside.

There wasn't much to see outside. It's so depressing.

Mac had never this individual. He was very attractive. She walked over to him while he was looking through something.

"Hi, I'm relatively new here, and I feel awful for not knowing more people than I do. I'm Mac, by the way." She extended her hand. "Veronica's been busy with a lot of things, so I guess I'll have to do all of this the old fashioned way." She smiled.

Kitty had spent a good portion of the day at the downtown public library, boning up on her Supernatural lure... something Kitty didn't have a lot of experience with. Of course, she had gotten quite a bit of information from being there at the Hyperion, being that Angel Investigations specialized in that sort of thing; but it wouldn't hurt to do a little research on her own, now would it?

As Kitty entered through the main entrance, she noticed that the lobby was eerily silent. Her eyes shifted cautiously around the room until they fell upon a man, sitting in the middle of the room, reading. She stopped for a moment, trying to remember if she had met him or not, but she really couldn't recall.

In recent days, things around the hotel had been somber and a little hectic. Katara's death was still weighing heavily upon everyone's mind, even Kitty's. While she hadn't really gotten to know her very well, she was still horribly shocked and saddened by her sudden expiration. It just seemed really unfair, is all - but death was hardly ever considered to be a fair outcome under any circumstances.

After about standing near the doorway for about a minute or so, Kitty decided she'd take a slight detour from her studies to introduce herself to the man and the girl who had just joined him. Though, out of the two of them, the man seemed to be deeply immersed in a book.

Once she had gotten a bit closer, she noticed the book seemed to be be comprised of hieroglyphics of some sort; though, Kitty couldn't recognize where they had come from, which piqued her curiosity almost instantaneously.

They looked so... strange. Not that Kitty had an extensive knowledge about hieroglyphics or anything, but she couldn't recall seeing anything like them before.

"Hi," she greeted both of them with a congenial smile, hoping she wasn't interrupting anything. She didn't like bothering people when they were preoccupied, but she hadn't really gotten to know too many of the residents yet. Normally, Kitty was quite sociable, but being in a new place made her a little apprehensive about approaching other people; especially since things seemed to be so intense there all the time. Not everyone seemed to be interested in meeting newbies.

Mac was a little startled because she really hadn't notice the girl walk in the door. She jumped a little. "Hi" she replied. "I'm Mac, and I was introducing myself to him but I think he didn't see me."

"Oh! Umm.." Clark looked up from his book, surprised. He had heard the first girl, but was so engrossed in his book, that he hadn't thought she was speaking to me. "Hello, Mac. I've been here awhile."

He looked to the other girl. "Good afternoon. I don't remember seeing either of you here before. My name is Clark. Clark Kent." He gestured to the book. "This is just a journal that was sent to me. Mostly stuff about my family and what my home was like."

"Hi Mac," she said, smiling still. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Kitty."

By the time she had introduced herself, the other man had finally acknowledged them and her gaze immediately went back to him. "Clark Kent? As in..." Oh dear. However, she stopped herself from saying anything further, lest she spoil his secret identity; though, she wasn't entirely sure he had one now, since a lot of people seemed to know who the comic book characters were.

What a strange world she had landed herself in, eh?

"Pleased to meet you, Clark. My name is Kitty," she said. "Kitty Pryde."

For a moment she let her eyes flicker down to the journal he had been reading, then back up to his face again. "I've never seen hieroglyphics like those before..." Kitty confessed, looking mildly curious. "Where are you from, exactly?"

Mac turned to face the guy who had now just finally realized they were there. She smiled at him. "Your book looks like it is from an Egyptian culture, but it's different."

She quickly glanced around the lobby, but didn't see anyone else. "I'm looking to make myself a few more acquaintances because I only know Veronica and Backup, her dog very well. If I'm going to be here as long as I suspect, I might as well make the most of it, eh?"

"Nice to meet you, Kitty." Clark smiled then paused. "I'm from.. err.. well, it's a long way from here. And it's not around anymore, so.." He wasn't sure how to elaborate.

He laughed at the description of his book. Egyptian hieroglyphs. That's just what Jimmy had thought. "Not really. It's from.. it's another language. One which very few in this world can translate." He was curious what to say to them both.

He couldn't just say he was an alien with super powers. But he could give some names. It wasn't like they'd know them anyway.. right. "Krypton. I lived there. But my parents sent me to Kansas.. and now I'm here in California."

"Krypton? Like, Superman's home world from the comics?" She paused.

"This isn't Kansas anymore..." Mac trailed off and smirked. "Yea, I know, corny, but kinda cute at the same time. I've lived in Cali for all my life, but I've never stayed this long in LA before. Kinda weird how I got here, but given the status here, everything and their brother is out of the ordinary. So who else exactly stays here? I know Veronica, sorta met a creepy guy who could read my thoughts, some blonde girls with a serious 'tudes, and....that's about it. Well, I know you two now. The computer tracking system, Veronica came up with and I created it. It's really nifty. I like nifty. Do you guys like nifty?"

She was rambling. She always rambled when she was nervous or was weirded out by things.

I need to work on my people skills.

"Krypton," Kitty repeated, the word sounding odd and foreign rolling off her tongue. It was strange to be talking about a planet she had always regarded as a work of fiction, but this was her reality now. "Cool name."

When Mac had brought up the Superman comment, she came close to shooting her a look, one that would suggest that she not say anything. It wasn't their place to expose other people's secrets, after all. If they wished to continue to have a secret identity in this world, they should have the option to do so. Instead, Kitty gave a small laugh at Mac's lame joke and shook her head slightly. It was lame, but it held some truth to it: They were no longer home.

"Computer tracking system?" Kitty said with a look of renewed interest. "That really is nifty. I'd like to see it sometime," she told Mac with a small smile. "I'm a bit of a computer nerd myself."

"Yea it's totally easy to do once you get the hang of it. I guess most people feel noob-ish when they first start. It's nice to meet a fellow computer geek because united we need to stand...otherwise we'd probably be picked off one by one...heaven knows I can't defend myself compared to what I've heard rumors of in the city."

Mac paused for a moment.

"Maybe I should start learning something to defend myself with? That would be hilarious--a computer girl who can kick butt. On the other hand...what do you guys think of LA? Glad to be here, or wish you were in Kansas again?"

"It was a good place," he said as he looked upward. "But.. it's not around anymore. I do have a place up north that sort of reminds me of it. It's a bit too cold for most people, though."

Clark thought for a minute, then looked back at the two women. "I kinda miss Kansas. Doing the chores, milking a cow, getting a drink at the Talon. But then, I also like being here, there's a lot of good people in this hotel. There's also a lot of people in the city who need help."
