It felt like his life had been in a tornado lately, violent gusts trying to push him in different directions, everything moving at a chaotic pace. Sometimes you just got lost in the middle of it all, doing what you were told, pushing forward, but not really conscious of what was going on around you. Maybe that was how he felt, there wasn't a name for it, at least not to his knowledge. Overwhelmed? Drained? They came close but ultimately fell short of proving an accurate description. It had been a strange experience so far, it opened his eyes up to the way the world could be, and how much it needed help. His reaction to that realization had been split. It made him went to charge forward, change things, right the ship, but at the same time he felt like it was a giant ocean, and it was all he could do just to stay afloat, much less help anyone else.
Really, all of this had started with one person. One reason, one mission, one goal. Save the cheerleader, save the world. He hadn't known who she was then, hardly knew anyone detail about her, but had been determined to save her. It was something inside of him, and while the threat to the world had been a large reason, it was something else. Something that told him he had to save her first. That he couldn't let an innocent girl become some monster's victim. That had been the most important thing, the world had been placed in the back seat, though it was always on his mind. The first time he saw her, without knowing she was the exact girl he had been searching for, it had been a powerful feeling. She'd been sad, and it created the urge to comfort her, to let her know that life would get better after high school, that she had plenty to look forward to.
The girl had ended up being Claire Bennet, someone that he couldn't imagine not knowing now, though in comparison to the length of their lives, that hadn't really known each other very long. At some point during all of the action occurring on and around the hotel, he had lost sight of her, the frequency of their visits declining. It was time to make things right, and he'd cleared everything off, making sure that he could see her. The rest of the world be damned right then, he deserved one moment of peace, didn't he? He was standing in front of her door, he didn't know how long he had been like that, it could have been a few seconds or a few minutes. Raising one hand, he knocked softly, already aware that she was inside.
