Diana wasn’t one for rooftops, truly. That was the domain of those like…well, those more dramatic than she was. By and large, rooftops were deserted and overlooked, and she much preferred being among people, talking with them, watching them, caring for them. She’d come to feel that her mission had to be addressed on two fronts. There were the grand gestures, the ways she could hopefully inspire nations to peace. But just as important were the small and seemingly insignificant changes she could make in a person’s life, something that might inspire them to become a leader in their own right. Her work at the shelter downtown was just as important as saving a crowd from a creature bent on destruction.
Of course, here that was different. She hadn't realized how much she depended on her position as Themysciran Ambassador to effect large scale change. Here, no one knew her outside a comic book. A few times when she'd helped someone in danger, they only believed she was a human dressed for some party. Without the bastion of the Justice League to support and help, she couldn't do nearly as much as she wished. It was like coming to Man's World all over again, alone, and this time without those other heroes who had become her friends.
But for now, she was standing alone, on a rooftop, not understanding the mystique at all. It was a pause, a hesitation….her newly-rented apartment was floors below and she intended to head there momentarily. Yet…from here, one could almost scent the sea. If she concentrated, closed her eyes, she could almost filter out the noise and chatter to hear waves lapping at sandy shore, just like she was home again….
