Letting forth a small sigh, Sarah checked a page in her date book and then stowed it in her enormous bag. One more stop and then she could crash in her apartment and read until her mind stopped running so fast, a common predicament in the last weeks before a production. She made quick work of the outer door locks of her theater and then turned from them, starting off in her usual direction. It was only after a few steps that she fully took in her surroundings. Normally, of course, it was simply a habit of living in the city to look around at once, but approaching exhaustion from the lengthy hours just spent in the theater with no sleep dulled the speed of those actions.
She froze in mid-step. Where there had been recognizable buildings and other things hours earlier, there was now total and complete unfamiliarity. What more, it was dark and the telltale slap of water on the awning over her head accompanied the sight of rain she was now witnessing. However, it hadn't been raining a minute ago and she was certain it should not be dark, as her watch still confirmed it was early morning for her. For a moment she stared at the face, as if expecting the hands to start spinning around it wildly.
