Faith did back down, in so far as she let her head fall back against one of the cabinet doors with a dull thud. The smell of the coffee did help soothe her somewhat, though the tension still lingered in her shoulders.
"You think that's what I want?" She shifted her head slightly so she was looking mostly at Buffy. "For me to give you an order and you to salute or something with a yes ma'am?"
Even the idea of it was too weird to contemplate.
"Truth is, I got no clue what's gonna happen," she admitted quietly. "Peter put me in charge because he knew me better, but we both know that things have changed around here and for all either of us know it's not stopped yet." Angel and Spike ran the show now. Faith was sure it would only be a matter of time.
"What matters to me is that team," she poured herself a mug of coffee as she made herself look up at Buffy. "Not because they're mine or whatever, but because I love the crap outta them. They're good people and they're good fighters. What I care about is they stay safe on patrols which is only gonna happen if they're organized. That they're trained and ready. That when the big bads come they know whose voice they're following. They need to feel strong and together, we all know this. I aint superior to any of them. Hell, TK is a Queen and Jacen ruled a galaxy. I'm just the schmuck who stays up all night to do the paperwork. I'm no one's superior."
