Who: Domino and her last ghost
What: chatting, mostly
Where: her apartment
When: the last night of the ghost plot
Warnings: Domino might curse.
Domino had stopped trying to sleep at night anymore. After the year she'd gotten her first shotgun from the Priest and the year she'd celebrated Christmas in Tokyo, Domino knew better than to expect a quiet night.
She was surprised then when her room didn't turn into a multicolor carnival of lights, or the dingy apartment she'd spent the last Christmas in. There was just a feeling, like hands on her back. Not Nathan's hands though. These were smaller, softer. She turned slowly, surprised. After all these years, she could still remember how his hands felt on her.
Milo smiled softly at her, stroking her hair out of her eyes. "Hey, Beatrice."
She was hugging him before she could have made a conscious decision to do so. He smelled like the pine tree air freshener they'd given him for his cell, and the smoke of the cigarettes she'd smoked back then. His hug was warm, as solid as she was. It took a long time for her to want to let go.
"Milo, what the hell's this? No hallucination, no memory replayed for me?" Her voice was soft, wavering a little bit. Dammit, she wasn't going to cry. She just wasn't. Not now.
He shrugged. "Let's just say that those were ghosts of times, and I'm not. I've missed you Beatrice, and I know you've missed me too." His voice was still gentle and soft, and she smiled at him.
He kissed her softly, and she returned the kiss, her fingers moving to pet his hair, the familiar coarseness running over hands that were much rougher now than they had been then, and much more dirty than she'd ever realized they could be.
She turned away a little, almost ashamed for a minute, that he would see her like this. He was a peaceful man, who just wanted to be left to himself. It had taken them six months to realize they had a mutual affection, though they had moved quickly after that. He was the first man she'd ever loved, and she found herself wondering what he would think of her now.
He'd never liked her habit of turning away when there was something on her mind she didn't want him to know about. His hands gently guided her face back toward him. "Hey. I thought you were glad to see me. Don't tell me you're afraid your boyfriend will get jealous."
Domino blinked at him. "You know about Nate?"
Milo laughed a little. "Of course I do. For one thing, I'm a precognate, remember? I knew you'd wind up here the first time I saw you. For another, I've been dead. You think there's anything I'd rather do than watch you shower?"
Domino laughed, and that made him smile. She had always been far too serious when he'd known her, until they were alone. "That's better. Now you listen here, little lady."
Domino snorted. "You're not any bigger than me, Milo."
He waved his hand. "Bah, details. Anyway. I've been keeping track of you. You're doing fine. I know you were in some stuff you didn't like recently, and that you think your reason for not liking it was kind of dumb. You talk to yourself a lot. But I also know that you've always, on purpose or accident, done right. Even when not doing so paid better."
She nodded, her hands reaching for his. "So you're not pissed I found another man?"
He shook his head. "We were married two years. Two smoldering hot, don't bother wearing underwear kinds of years, but that's still not a lot of time. Frankly, I'm surprised you even still have feelings for me." His hands squeezed hers and he bent to kiss their knuckles, relishing her touch. "Even if we'd been married for fifty, I wouldn't want you to close your heart off when I spent so much effort getting you to open up."
Domino couldn't help but sigh. He reminded her of good times, back when things had been simpler for her. "Thank you, Milo. There's a guy here, he looks just like you."
Milo nodded, then his eyes went wide as Domino wiggled onto his lap. She looked more confident, and was definitely more muscular now. It was pretty amazing. "Yeah. Alternate universes, what can I say? Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. Take your time and make up your mind. You have a bad habit of just doing what you've always done because it's easier. If you want to pursue him, then go for it. If you don't, then that's that. Just don't hurt anyone while you make up your mind."
Domino nodded, resting her head on his shoulder. "No more talking. I just want you to hold me until you go away."
Milo wrapped his arms around her, hugging her tightly. "You know I never shut up."
She smirked, then kissed him deeply, her hands grabbing a chunk of his hair on either side. It was a long, hot kiss, and it didn't break for quite a while. When it finally did break, Domino was bright eyed and breathless. "I have my methods."
