A SIGN OF THE TIMES
By Betty Brathwaite
BATH - As part of a continuing series of "Where Are They Now?" stories, this week we are focusing on Royce and Appollonia Meade.
Royce Meade is a former healer best known for the "Meade Technique", a method by which a magical field is formed around a patient in order to preserve it in cases where organs need to be regrown outside of the body. The rights to the technique were sold shortly thereafter for such a large sum of money that they immediately catapulted the pureblood into the higher echelons of wizarding society.
Appollonia Griswald had met Royce during his training days, her being a Law Enforcement Officer who had frequent occasion to visit St. Mungo's whenever she was injured during training. Their love match carried Appollonia to the same status of wealth as Royce, and together they quit their employments in order to better enjoy their new status.
Between luncheons at Malfoy Mansion and dinners with the Minister for Magic, they enjoyed a life of luxury that they shared with their only child, Robert. The family managed to weather the first rise of You-Know-Who intact, but it was the second rise that would change the family's fortunes forever.
After the Battle of Hogwarts, Robert was convicted of crimes against the Ministry for his actions as a Death Eater, a membership he had kept hidden from his parents due to his mother being only 3/4 pure. He was levied an astronomically large fine on top of a prison sentence, and despite their disappointment for his actions, the Meades paid the fine at the expense of their life of ease.
Royce has returned to work at St. Mungo's as a simple healer, and Appollonia has returned to the DMLE, their lives having returned to normal as if the past thirty-some years had never happened. The only reminder are the few artifacts they managed to hold on to before selling most of their belongings, and the young man who awaits their visits in Azkaban.
