Hullo, all!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I just joined the community, so I thought I'd share a bit about myself. I'm a satanist, but my personal avatar is Apollo. He's the representation of everything embodied in my belief system. Exercise the mind and body, love and play music, athletes of both sexes are gorgeous, that sort of thing. :D

I've been blind all my life, and I like it that way. I have a seeing eye doggy, and he's the center of my life. He's a six-year-old yellow lab/golden retriever mix, and he's very tall and long. We make a great team. One of these days, I'm going to find a picture of him and have someone help me post it here so's I can show him off to everyone. Oh, and let me also add that if you have any questions about blindness in general, and/or my life and methods of dealing with it, feel free to ask. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, will offend me, unless you ask me how I watch television. I listen to it, duh!!

1. What religion or spiritual tradition do you follow? Spiritual, with a mostly Celtic Pagan flavour. I am curious about many religious traditions and spiritual paths. I'm hesitant to tie myself down to any one given path/tradition but the one that I've felt most drawn to is Celtic Paganism.

2. How did you find this community? Interest search

3. What do you hope to give/receive within this community? I hope to learn, discuss and grow amongst like minded people.

4. Anything else you'd like us to know about you: My given name is Kori, I'm 26 years old, married with two children. And if I can think of anything else to add, I shall add it.

Bell Book and Candle

Apparently the world beware, witches and pagans mostly. The Catholic Church is training more exorcists.

I mean. I knew the practice not extinct... but this is ridiculous.

Listen:Read more... )
It's just so effing ridiculous and medieval. And people wonder why Pagans don't like coming out of the proverbial broom closet. I mean. I was Catholic, born and raised, and even I wasn't *that* bad.

paid Wiccan clergy

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
My comment on YouTube:

"If people want their clergy to be available full-time for ritual, counseling, support at 3:00 am when you're falling apart -- financial support is not only logical, it should be a given."

Discuss.

so the family/friends know you're pagan....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Either they've asked the obvious question, or you "came out." So, what next?

If it was a surprise, what was the family reaction?

If it's common knowledge, how well do they accept your faith?

Welcome to all new members!

Happy you decided to join us! Please feel free to pop in a topic whenever the mood hits, so we can get this party started. We're relatively new to IJ, so still feeling out the community at large.

Controversial topics are welcome, as long as the guidelines are followed. In fact, it would be good that this group not be another 101-style as is so often the case. Intellect is highly encouraged!

The Yearly Roundup, Part 1
This year was big for the Veteran's Pentacle Quest, JK Rowling and her Harry Potter series -- especially the world's only gay wizard icon, Albus Dumbledore -- and witches behaving badly up in Salem, MA. Read Full Article

The Yearly Roundup, Part Deux
Big news for Damien Echols and the West Memphis Three this year, as well as some really nifty archaeological discoveries. This wasn't such a great year for church-vs-state cases; there were far too many. Read Full Article

The Yearly Roundup, Episode III
More news, and some really great visitors this year! Ray Buckland and Dorothy Morrison both stopped in to visit, along with Dana Eilers and Sirona Knight. A Wiccan won the lottery, Homer Simpson made some Pagans mad, and the annual Holiday Display Battle kicked off in earnest. Read Full Article

It's the round up from the pagan section of about.com, I don't know how many people here get it, but I thought these were interesting enough. Oh and Hi. :D

Yule & Christmas

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Are you open about celebrating your pagan holy day, whether or not you celebrate cultural Christmas as well? How do you explain the common points and differences between the two, if asked?

(discussion topic; not looking for personal advice)

Winter Solstice & Summer Solstice

Introduction

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
1. What religion or spiritual tradition do you follow?

I guess the best way to put it would be "Goddess worship." I worship the four-aspected Goddess (Maiden, Mother, Crone, and Dark) represented by the Moon. I don't follow any particular tradition and am fairly eclectic. I just do whatever feels right. I tentatively identify as a kitchen/green witch, though those practices don't actually show up in my life as much as I'd like to.

2. How did you find this community?

Not sure--either [info]paganism or [info]asylum_promo, I guess. Or [info]feralfauna. I can't remember!

3. What do you hope to give/receive within this community?

Interesting discussion about topics of interest to modern pagans, I suppose. Well, specifically intelligent, mature discussion.

4. Anything else you'd like us to know about you:

I love bunnies and knitting and would be pleased to friend anyone in this community who'd like to be friends!

Ancient Pagans

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I remember reading a while back that Julius Caesar in writing about the Celts said, "They're God named 'that' is the same God we call 'this.' I wish I could find the actual quote, I will continue looking, but the point is that ancient Pagans were not as worried about the cultural names of Gods and Goddesses and were therefore much more syncretic than modern Pagans. Should we, or should we not, follow their example and also be syncretic as well? Personally, I think so.

Hi, glad to have found you. Loving this exponential IJ growth, if an asylum doesn't exist yet, check again in five minutes. :D So then, the intro.

1. What religion or spiritual tradition do you follow?
I consider myself a self-defined Pagan, treading the paths of my ancestors to one degree or another, both Euro and NDN, with a focus on natural magick and kitchen witchery. Very eclectic, but I am interested in Celtic Recon more than anything these days. I haven't learned much about it yet, I have a lot of reading to do in that arena.

2. How did you find this community?
[info]asylum_promo

3. What do you hope to give/receive within this community?
Time will tell. I would like to find myself acquainted with Pagans who have a clue, who can just walk their own path without thinking it's the only one. As far as what I can give, I've identified as a Witch and a Pagan since I was in high school in the 80s... I have a lot of magickal experience, have been a high priestess in a Dianic coven, have been solitary, have circled with others in open circles. I have a lot of varied experience and if I can give anything from it I'm happy to.

4. Anything else you'd like us to know about you:
Not that I can think of at this time.

I have just created this group. It's intent is to allow Pagans and/or Heathens of various ilks to discuss their faith and to question everything. If something is secret and you cannot discuss it, then don't bring it up. The best secrets are those NOT spoken of, even in reference. I will try to moderate as little as possible, but hard-headedness and stupidity will not be condoned. Otherwise, have fun.
