Jared tied a bootie to his father's door. "Are you feeling better now that we're here?" he asked.
"Of course," Tristan gave him a hug. "It always feels better to be among loving family. Don't you agree?"
"We always had each other. But, yes, this is better," Jared replied.
"We're just a couple doors down if you need anything during the night, Tristan," Jensen shook his hand. "Welcome home."
Tristan smiled warmly as he closed his door.
Jensen watched Jared tie the other bootie to their door.
"You've never spent the night apart, have you?" he asked Jared.
"Furthest apart we ever got was our cots in the hut," Jared finished tying a bow.
"I'm sure he'll be able to find us if he needs us."
"Thanks, Jensen."
"For what?" Jensen opened their bedroom door.
"For saying 'us' instead of just 'me'. Knowing you'd help him, too, makes me worry less about him."
Jensen's room was lit by candles and there was a crackling fire in the fireplace.
"Take a seat by the fire," Jensen said as he turned back to lock the door.
Jared sat down on the plush rug and was warmed by the flames. His eyes drifted shut.
"I know today has been long, but I'd like us to get cleaned up before bed. I guess it's just one of my quirks."
"I'm sorry, Jensen. I forgot this afternoon. I was so tired."
"I know," Jensen smiled at him. "We have clean bedding."
Jared moved to grab a cloth. Jensen beat him to it.
"Just relax. You're dead on your feet. I'd love to help you and then join you in bed when I'm done."
Jared wanted to protest. He wanted to tell Jensen that he like the intimacy of bathing him. But, he was exhausted.
After struggling to get Jared's shirt off, Jensen spoke softly, "That's it, Jared. Let me help you and you'll be in bed in no time."
The warm water and soothing voice continued while Jensen removed the rest of Jared's clothing, washed him and helped him crawl between the covers.
Jensen quickly cleaned himself off and snuggled up to Jared, who had already fallen asleep.
"I'm thankful that you're here and safe," Jensen ran his fingers through Jared's hair. "You have no idea how much danger you were in. I hope you never know."

Jensen awoke during the night and checked with the bodyguard outside their door to make sure there'd been no disturbances.
"All is fine, Prince Jensen," he answered the younger man. "We know that we need to protect Prince Jared. I've asked my cousin Jeff to meet with you tomorrow since you thought he'd be a good match."
"Yes. Thank you," Jensen closed the heavy door and locked it again.
Jensen did his best to get quietly into bed, but Jared still rolled over and asked him, "Everything okay?"
"Sure. I was just checking something."
Jared had turned over so he was facing Jensen. Jensen put his hand on Jared's cheek and gazed at his beautiful intended. He brushed his lips against Jared's and Jared's eyes fluttered open.
"Was that too forward of me?" Jensen asked.
Jared smiled, shook his head and leaned in for another one. Jensen was relieved he hadn't pushed their relationship too far. Jared's lips just looked so kissable and he couldn't resist any longer.
Jensen's hand moved to the back of Jared's head and Jared had a hand pressed against Jensen's chest. Their lips moved slowly and softly. Trying out their newfound relationship, Jensen licked along Jared's lower lip and Jared parted his lips. Jensen probed around Jared's mouth, making Jared moan. Jared's tongue tangled gently with Jensen's, deepening the kiss and fighting for air.
When they parted for a breather, Jared was blushing.
"What's wrong?" Jensen asked lightly as he ran his fingers through Jared's hair.
"I've just never felt like that from a kiss before."
"That's not a problem, Jared. We're just learning what we like as individuals and a couple. You don't have to blush around me."
"I can't help it," Jared looked at Jensen. "It's just new."
"Want to try it again?" Jensen gave Jared a smile that he couldn't refuse.
Jared nodded and fell back into exploring the wonders of kissing. When they stopped to rest, Jensen had a hand on Jared's bare hip. Jared rested his head on Jensen's shoulder.
"We meet with the priest about our wedding tomorrow," Jensen told him.
"Oh."
"What's wrong, Jared? You should be happy."
"I'm just not ready to--" Jared's voice faltered.
"Oh! That," Jensen understood what Jared was getting at. "All we're doing is having our wedding, Jared. Whatever happens in our bedroom doesn't change. I won't be rushing you. The people outside the castle would like to see you and see us happy. We can do that, can't we?"
"I am happy," Jared looked in Jensen's eyes.
"As am I," Jensen smiled and kissed him. Jared moved his hand to Jensen's hip. They held each other close and learned what they wanted their love to be like.

"Jeff is the name of the bodyguard you've picked for me?"
"Yes. Jeff's a good man. If he's not to your liking, we'll find someone else."
"What does a bodyguard do, exactly?"
"They accompany us wherever we go and keep watch when we sleep. They keep an eye out for anything that could be dangerous and are prepared to defend us with their lives."
"Why would someone want to do that?"
"They feel it's important, like a calling. It's a honorable position."
"Do they have lives outside the castle?"
"I doubt it. Most of their time and energy is taken up by their profession. It doesn't leave much for a personal life."
"That's sad. They should be happy."
"They are happy, Jared. They like what they do. They picked it for a reason."
Jared just gave Jensen a small smile as he ran a finger along Jensen's jaw, "Do we have to get up yet?"
"Not until we want to," Jensen replied. He took Jared's mouth with his and took his time mapping it out
"Hmm," Jared murmured when he opened his eyes. "I liked that."
"Good," Jensen replied. "I plan on doing that often."
