Renji/Rukia, musical. 410 words, unbetaed. No smut, just a bit suggestive at the end.
Hope you enjoy!
"They are horrifyingly persistent," Rukia said, sounding fascinated despite herself.
Most weekends, the 11th division was usually good for an impromptu party or two. Tonight, Iba and Ikkaku had somehow gotten the idea to go around serenading women; Kira and Hisagi were drafted two songs in. Matsumoto had given them a standing ovation, Hinamori had blushed and stammered out thanks, and Kiyone had tried to convince them to let her join so they could go sing to her captain next.
"Yeah," Renji agreed, shifting his seat on the floor. "That's pretty ugly." Once they'd started, he'd moved himself and Rukia closer to the door in an attempt to stay out of sight. It wasn't easy with his height and bright hair, but it was better than being recruited...and if they tried to serenade Rukia, he wouldn't be held responsible for any injuries or shattered egos.
"Ayasegawa-san looks rather upset," Rukia said. She leaned to one side in order to peer through the crowd.
Renji shook his head. "See, I told them Yumichika-san would get mad if they didn't sing for him." He tossed back the rest of his sake, then reached behind Rukia to set the cup on a nearby table, letting his fingers brush her hip as he drew his arm back. "Wanna get out of here?"
Rukia turned and looked at him, lifting an eyebrow. "I suppose," she said.
She led the way out of the room, calmly slipping through the crowd and leaving her larger companion to curse and shove people aside.
"You could have waited," he growled as he joined her outside.
"I am waiting," she countered, as she started for the division gates. "I could have left."
"Eh, whatever," he grumbled. "You wanna go for a walk?"
She looked over at him. "Brother will be waiting up for me."
"...is that right?" he said, keeping his voice carefully even.
Rukia remained silent, not speaking again until they had left the grounds of the 11th and turned towards the Kuchiki estate. "I have some time before I am expected."
One side of Renji's mouth curved up as he rested his hands behind his head. "Yeah? How much time?"
The two stopped walking, almost as if by a signal. Rukia took one of the lengths of his sash at his waist, letting the fabric slide between two fingers.
"It may be enough," she mused, raising an eyebrow in challenge. "I suppose that is up to you."
