Born in Aomori, Japan, Ken'ichi lived a fairly normal life. Loving parents, adored younger sister, public school... they were every bit the typical middle-class family. Until the spring of 1994, when Ken'ichi's father returned home from a business trip. Within weeks, father, mother, and sister had all fallen ill and subsequently died from an unknown, unidentifiable pathogen. The only one that seemed to be completely unaffected by the pathogen was Ken'ichi. The question everyone wanted to know was... Why?

Then a ward of the system, 9-year-old Ken'ichi was moved to UCLA's research facility to be studied in order to try to identify the pathogen that had killed his family, as well as why he seemed to have an immunity to it. Secluded for years in a sterile environment as researcher after researcher was brought in to study him and his case, Ken'chi was cut off from most of the world, his only contacts the researchers themselves and the computer brought in for his tutoring sessions. Over the years, Ken'chi grew more and more withdrawn from people and more and more reliant on the steady supply of sweets brought in to bribe him into cooperating for yet another round of experiments. Though his people skills never improved, Ken'ichi's studies excelled, no doubt thanks to his complete lack of anything to distract him, earning a degree in computer science (online, of course) by the time he completed his high school courses, showing an exceptional aptitude for statistics and programming.

Now 24, Ken'ichi is no longer a ward of the research facility, though they were never able to determine precisely why he survived the pathogen that killed the rest of his family. However, due to the years of isolation, he has developed severe agoraphobia (fear of open spaces or of being in crowded, public places like markets; fear of leaving a safe place), as well as severe mysophobia (fear of being contaminated by dirt or germs). Ken'ichi lives alone, rarely venturing out of his apartment. He has a cleaning service in weekly to keep the apartment spotless.

All of his shopping is done online, except for his groceries, which are hand-picked by the lady from the cleaning service. He supports himself by working online as a computer and research consultant, often being asked by the LAPD to help with researching statistics in tricky cases. Ken'ichi still harbors an over-fondness for sweets. Indeed, most anything he eats must be sugar-filled or at least naturally sweet. (the majority of his diet that does not include pastries and confections lean towards fruits and sweet vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, sweet squashes, and the like)

Spending so much time alone, Ken'ichi's other biggest vice, after sweets, is computer and video games. When he's not working, he has been known to sit for hours without moving, save for his hands, until he figures out, and beats, a game. He has gone through many games this way, and has a vast collection, though once he has beaten them, he rarely goes back and plays them again, because the challenge is no longer there.
