+ a mass clearing out of inactive muses
What you can do to help:
+ If you would like to keep your muse, please leave us a comment and let us know... any muses we do not hear from WILL be cut, and you would have to reclaim them and start with a fresh slate

My step-mother was diagnosed with cancer a couple of weeks ago, and is in the hospital right now because she had a heart attack last night. So... We are aware that most, if not all, icons are not showing up for many people. This appears to be a temporary problem that the site maintainers are aware of and already working to fix. It should not last long, and you should not have to re-upload any of your userpics.
squeaky has addressed the issue here
"I have been working on doing some database optimizations to see if it will help with the "Comment Rot" problem. It seems that during this, some information that was cached in the database was lost including journal layouts and profile information. If you find this information is missing, you will need to reupload it.
We have not lost any entries or icons. Also please be aware that the comment loss is still our number one priority. We have some cool things coming once we solve this major issue."
