Who: Casey & Tucker (Narrative)
Where: A 50'S DINER NEXT TO HQ ALLIANCE
What/when: THE POWER OUTAGE. 5/2
Rating: PG
It was good that they moved away from the small southern town where Casey had grown up and Tucker had been born. It was a chance they wouldn't have had in so many ways but above all it was hope for Tucker. As a father Casey was not what you would call a golden goose, he was nothing special, but he was good. The biggest fear he had was that the guilt in his heart that rivaled a devout Catholic would somehow rub off on his son. It made him soft but it also caused him pain that Tucker shouldn't grow up to feel. At the Alliance Tucker was exposed to so many good role models and blessings of people that he didn't have any other option than to come out as a well rounded amazing person... and for that Casey was the most grateful.... and a little bit guilty.
When the power went out Casey had the not-so-rare opportunity to step up and take sole custody of the title role model. Tucker was nervous about the dark but he tried not to be because he wanted to look tough, when the power went out he grabbed his stuffed hippopotamus and squeezed it with white knuckled grip but he told his father "It's okay the light will come back daddy." and Casey couldn't help but smile.
Naturally the power outage bothered him but for different reasons, he wasn't afraid of the dark, Batman taught him what was real to fear and what wasn't when he was just a kid himself. What worried him the most was thinking about how the rift might have affected this change and he didn't like to think about the disturbances in their world because for him it could end tomorrow but for Tucker it had just begun. Casey refused to let even something out of his control pull the rug out from under his son.
He grabbed a bottle off the counter and shook it, it lit up with a natural luminescence and he handed it to Tucker who pried one of his hands from Potamus to take hold of it. He could just flip on his phone flashlight but Tucker appreciated the more natural things in life as much as he liked electronics and Casey respected that, it felt like bridging their worlds together since he himself felt so attached to the patterns of the Earth.
Batman buzzed with annoyance and Casey rolled his eyes in the shy way that only he could. "C'mon Tuck, let's go see Miss Clem." and with that they got dressed and left the Alliance HQ to drop into a little 50's style diner in walking distance of the HQ building. It was a nice little taste of home he hadn't expected to find in Vancouver and the staff there knew him and Tuck by name now.
They stepped in and the backup generator had the place lit up but they were using a minimal amount of lights and to his dismay the jukebox wasn't on. It made sense but it was still a disappointment. He didn't see any of the staff he knew right away so they must be busy in the back, the booths all looked pretty full.... he just had to find a place for them to squeeze in... if there were any.
People had flocked to the diner in absurd numbers like moths to the flame
