In 2020 the wizarding community of Britain is still on the fast track to success. The rebuilding period is still under way, but everything seems to have sorted itself out with hard work and determination on the part of those who survived the war.
With Britain finally stabilizing, the Ministry of Magic is reaching out to the other wizarding schools of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons to establish stronger ties with wizards in other countries. On a more day-to-day scale, Seth Mason (along with Victoire Weasley and others working in the department of International Magical Cooperation) deals with and entertains witches and wizards from other countries at least once a week. After the war, Britain discovered how important allies can be, and hasn't hesitated to build up a large supply of them.
The Tri-Wizard tournament was England's way of once again working to strengthen its ties with Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. After some debate, the two schools were persuaded to let Hogwarts host it once again. After arriving at Hogwarts, Hans Erwan of Durmstrang, Jade 'Bri' Yorke of Hogwarts, and Requiem Deville of Beauxbatons became Tri-Wizard champions. The final task was held on June 24th without a hitch. Beaxbatons' Champion proved victorious, leaving Hogwarts and Durmstrang with dismal atmospheres for the remainder of the year.
In addition to the Tri-Wizard, England plans to host the European Quidditch Cup.
All along the Ministry has been working to clean up the remaining Death Eaters and crack down on anyone involved in the Dark Arts. Because the majority of these people were purebloods, extra effort has been made to write out pro-pureblood laws from the Ministry. This was intended to make everything fairer.
What it did, was lead to the purebloods without the Potters' and Weasleys' views on blood status feeling unfairly targeted.
With the opportunity of large numbers of witches and wizards coming together to watch the Quidditch Cup, a few of the disgruntled purebloods sent out word that there will be a meeting to take place to discuss and decide what to do about the Ministry and its new laws that seem to strip away the prestige that has always been afforded the old and noble pureblood families.
Kristof Diederich, Headmaster of Durmstrang, plans to attend this meeting with a few suggestions.
1. They need to infiltrate the Ministry and work from the inside to begin slipping small laws into place that will suppress muggleborns instead of purebloods.
2. They need to scare the rest of the wizarding world into thinking the Ministry's new direction is a dangerous one that will lead to the muggles finding out about them. Additionally, they need to create a few staged incidents where muggles have supposedly discovered a witch or wizard and caused the aforementioned's disappearance.
Kristof in extremely interested in bringing Britain back to its pureblood ways, and has no issue with taking time out of his schedule to organize those attending the meeting and others into a working force.
Kristof and the purebloods aren't the Ministry's only worries, however. There will always be those who have plans of their own.
After nearly two decades of relative peace and stability, the wizarding world is on the verge of breaking apart once again.
