Better than moving about a board; tour the Estate! Located in Sonoma, California, in the heart of wine country, the Fugita home is set back from a quiet street, several blocks from Sonoma Plaza. The climate is warm and sunny, though not overbearingly hot, with daytime and evening temperatures that rarely differ more than thirty degrees (F). Along with the Main House there are plenty of outdoor areas and a poolhouse/garage. Bedrooms are assigned as characters are cast. Below are descriptions of common areas and rough floor plans. The Porch Wrapping around the front of the house on the first floor is a spacious porch with two seating areas. Given the climate of Northern California, days should mostly be pleasant, evenings cool but not cold, so this is a reasonable place for slightly more private interactions than some of the interior areas. The Entry Hall Opening the front door presents the main hall with tall ceilings stretching up to the second story, and stairs to lead you there on your right. The room is not comfortable for long gatherings, nor is it private to either level of the home, but as it is centrally located within the Estate, is a likely place for accidental run-ins - and eavesdropping. The Dining Room To the left as one enters is the formal dining room, with a table capable of seating - when all leaves and seats are added - ten. There is little else in this room besides a sideboard, but is of course useful for meals and was where the first dinner was held before Hiro's murder. There is another entrance, from the kitchen. The Kitchen In the style of more modern homes, the kitchen is very open, and with all the windows, very airy. It's open to the Hall, and there are doors to the Dining Room and Pantry, as well as a side door to the Porch and a back door to the Pergola. It contains the Breakfast Nook, and is entirely open to the Family Room. The Breakfast Nook Just to the side of the Kitchen are a small table and four chairs with a pretty view of the side yard. The Pantry Off the Kitchen across from the Dining Room is a pantry with dry goods that can accommodate no more than three people, and even that is overcrowding. The Family Room Sharing with the Kitchen in a great room sort of design, the Family Room has a fireplace and television, a large comfortable sectional sofa, and of course, a Nintendo Wii. It's a much more casual environment than other areas in the house, and has a good view of the side yard, poolhouse, and Pergola through it's north, east, and west facing windows. The Parlor (or Library) Sunnier than the usual library, though just as cosy, the Parlor is home to a large selection of books to be read in one of the four leather armchairs tucked around the fireplace. There is also a baby grand piano, which Hiro was attempting to learn to play of late. Media Room The Media Room is pretty much exactly how it sounds; there's a large HD flatscreen, and also a VERY large roll-down screen with projector for DVDs. The seating is in rows of reclining armchairs and loveseats, and can seat ten comfortably. There is a truly impressive stereo, an expansive catalog of movies and music, and the lone desktop computer which provides the wireless network for the house. Laundry Two washers, two dryers, a large farm sink for handwashing, a steamer, steam iron, drying racks; in short, the Laundry is more than sufficient at keeping you in clean clothes, sheets and towels for the duration of your stay. The Study Hard right of the front door is Hiro's study. The room has lots of windows to contrast the darker built-in floor-to-ceiling shelves, a large desk with a solitary chair, and a conversation/relaxation area with a leather couch, coffee table, and two leather club chairs. Other Areas - There are two bedrooms, though neither has an attached bath. - There is a 3/4 bath (toilet, sink, shower) off the corridor to the Kitchen. - The full bath (toilet, sink, bathtub) on this level is beside the Laundry. - A half bath is at the end of the hallway just past the two bedrooms. Upstairs Lounge The only real public area upstairs, the lounge in the middle of the floor has two sets of doors that can be shut to make the area quieter or more private, but neither of the doors have locks. There is a chaise, an armchair, a few bookshelves, a desk and chair, and an armoire with a television and the house's collection of board and card games. Other Areas - The Master Suite has the main bedroom, a small office area, chaise, pass-through closet, and master bath. There is also a small balcony above the Family Room, which overlooks the Pergola and Pool. - There are two smaller bedrooms across from the master suite and a shared bath next to the master bath. - On the other side of the house are three other bedrooms; one with an en suite bath, the other two share a full bath and a half bath. The Fugita home is based on a real home in Sonoma, California. The actual home has been expanded upon to provide a larger setting for our story; i.e. the Garage/Poolhouse isn't two stories, there are four extra bedrooms, etc. but the style is the same; a comfortably eclectic home that's something between modern and traditional, with a lot of light. |
