CHARACTERS: Emily, Bella
OPEN OR CLOSED? Open
LOCATION: Bella's home
ABOUT? Emily is bringing Bella chocolate muffins.
RATING: Uh. PG at the most?

It was about 2 pm when an old silver pick up truck pulled up outside of Bella Swans home. It was a dusty truck and not new but it wasn't very noisy. It was one of the few afternoons that it hadn't rained in forks, but there was a cover pulled tightly across the tray of the truck, covering bags of groceries from the likelihood of rain.

A girl got out of the drivers side door after leaning over to pick up a basket that had been covered with a tea towel. She wasn't particularly tall and her long hair fell around her shoulders almost making a veil until she shrugged it behind her shoulders and closed the door. Emily walked to the door, basket of chocolate muffins hanging off her right arm. The basket was full, to the point if she leaned too far to one side she'd risk loosing them.

Knocking on the door Emily waited for a response, Bella had known she was bringing muffins, but if she wasn't at home Emily would just take them to Charlie at the police office. Actually, Emily had finished shopping quickly because if she wasn't back soon Sam would worry, and werewolves did odd things when they were upset. Last thing she needed was that. So she was here early than expected.

Bella hadn't forgotten nor had remembered that Emily was coming over today. It was in the back of her mind, yes, but she was preparing food for dinner already, as well as doing some loads of laundry. She had been spending quite a bit of time with Edward lately, and thus had left her household duties behind. And if Charlie was ever going to be happy about this wedding, she needed to suck up to him. A lot.

She had already put a dry rub and basted the ribs she was preparing for his dinner, as well as a salad and some bread. It was better to get these things done early so it would all be ready when he got home.

Bella had been upstairs sorting through some laundry when she heard the knock sound upon the door. Dropping the clothes in mid-sort, she made a beeline down the stairs, fiddling with her engagement ring all the while. She impatiently brushed stray strands that had fallen out of her ponytail from her eyes, and quickly opened the door, and at once recoginising the beautiful young woman in front of her.

"Oh! Hey, Emily.. Uhm.. do you want to come in?" she asked politely, stepping aside just in case she did.

Emily smiled at Bella and nodded. 'Sure but I shouldn't stay too long. I've got about a months worth of food in the car.. not that it's likely to last so long.' she shook her head slightly before coming inside. She lifted the basket off her arm.

'Muffins, as promised. Where would you like them put?' she asked. 'I didn't interrupt something, did I?' Emily, who had never come to Bellas house aside from when Bella was missing in the woods when she had helped poke around the forest for a short time before going back to making refreshment for the 'troops' didn't really know what to do with herself.

Bella smiled warmly, and closed the door after her. "Yeah.. Probably," she replied, knowing that Jake was added into this calculation, but she chose not to say anything about it just yet. It would make things awkward, more than likely.

"Oh, thanks!" she replied, taking the basket from her, and setting it upon the counter. "Uhm.. no, not really. Just laundry and making dinner for Charlie," she replied, leaning her back against the counter to stand facing her. She brushed her hair out of her eyes again with her left hand, and then absently placed them upon her thighs, not knowing what to do with herself. "Well.. I really wouldn't want to keep you if you need to get back to Sam and the.. boys or anything."

'Charlie's not much of a cook, then?' she asked. 'I honestly don't have that much laundry.. Sam tends to forget to take things off before he shifts. It's a good thing he doesn't get cold anymore.' Emily pushed some of her hair behind hear ears, it wasn't that she was a nervous person, that of all things she wasn't, but it was a somewhat awkward subject, becase both girls had chosen different sides.

'I should probably let you finish the laundry.. but how have you been?'

Bella snorted, and shook her head. "Not at all. He tried to make spaghetti once.. it was like trying to eat glue and noodles," she replied with a happier tone, glad that they were over the awkwardness.

Until Emily had aksed her how she had been. "Good. Happy," she replied rather bluntly. "Worried about.. things," she finished off lamely, obviously meaning Jacob but not willing herself to say his name aloud. "I'm sure things have been.. nice down in La Push? Not as much rain as in Forks, at least."

Emily pursed her lips in an effort not to laugh when Bella told her about the spaghetti. Police chief Swan's cooking skills, or startling lack there of wasn't of much interest to her in the sum of things though and when Bella began answering her other, more important question she listened intently.

'You shouldn't worry about Jacob.' Emily said, softly. 'he has a lot of people who love and look after him - he will... recover.' Emily sighed softly then paused, catching sight of Bellas ring she smile again. 'That must be worth a house or two.'

Bella began to chew on her bottom lip, and subconsciously gripped at her shirt to try to restrain her own emotions from attempting to escape. She shook her head. "This isn't an injury," she replied, shaking her head some more. "He's my best friend, and the fact that he won't even see me because of something I need to do? Because I followed my heart on who I want to be with? It's not fair!" she pointed out, shaking her head more vigourously, now.

She glanced up, and then back down to the ring. She couldn't help it when she smiled fondly, and then nodded. "Edward says it's pretty old, actually."

'It is an injury of the heart, Bella.' Emily explained softly. 'The hardest of all to heal - you may not have intended it... I don't think you did, but it is an injury none the less. But then, you need to follow your heart too.' Emily twisted a length of her long black hair around her finger, thinking. 'And no one ever said it was fair, if life was fair we'd never break hearts of others - but we do and life continues on, regardless.'

'I suppose if Edward thinks it's old it must be. It's beautiful - have you told Charlie?'

Bella chose to look at a spot on the floor, and chewed roughly on her lower lip. Now she felt awkward again. "I have followed my heart, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to be friends with Jacob, but he just doesn't seem to get it."

Bella's nose wrinkled. "Not yet, no. Soon, though."

'I wish I could do more for you too. Jacob is like family to me, and I'm fond of you too, Bella. Jacob may come around, he may not. It's not mine to say. But you can't expect him just to be fine with it.' Emily's voice and eyes were as sincere as ever, but quiet. She wasn't trying to hurt Bella, to upset her, but she didn't think Bella quite got it. How could she if she hadn't seen Jacob? Life was never that simple.

'I'm sure he'll recover - might want to give him a short period or respite if he gets in a bother.'

Bella sighed and shook her head. "I have to be the one to make things better. Not you, not Edward.. Me," she replied all too firmly. She knew that she had to be the one, that was quite inevitable.

"Right. Well.. thanks for the muffins," she added politely.

Emily signed and turned to the door, letting herself out. She didn't mind so much, she figured that might happen.

'Bye Bella.'
