[thread] - tommy jacobsen & chelsea kincaid
Characters: [info]thomasj & [info]cjkin
Setting: Central Park, just before Les Miserables rehearsals
Summary: Tommy and Chelsea have a play date, and then IT IS WAR.
Rating: TBD.

It really had been too long since he'd spent any amount of significant time with Chelsea, and it was something that Tommy intended to rectify immediately. He was definitely planning on joining her for her birthday, to welcome her into the quarter of a century club, but a little pre-birthday play date seemed like just what the doctor ordered. So they had set it up that they'd meet up in Central Park a couple hours before their Les Miserables rehearsal that afternoon, and Tommy was on his way there now, after having stopped to get a couple of slushies from the bodega four blocks down from his new apartment. One was for her, of course - he wasn't that big of a pig.

When he got to the park, he saw her sitting on a bench waiting for him - so he decided to do the thing that all boys did when they had an unsuspecting girl waiting for them. He decided to sneak up behind her and scare the ever-living daylights out of her. Never let it be said that Tommy Jacobsen wasn't a master of stealth - except that he really was totally awful and almost never did anything quietly. With the decided exception of sleeping. Yet somehow he did manage to make it all the way up behind her on the bench, but just when he was about to tap her on the shoulder and say boo, a squirrel dashed across his path, causing him to trip over himself and send the two slushies careening over the bench and out onto the pavement. "Son of a whore!" he cried out, as he watched the delicious things go to waste.

Chelsea'd had a fairly busy morning. She got up and walked Athena, had a lengthy discussion on the phone with her agent about Spider-Man, ignored a phone call from her mother, and all on top of finding time to eat, shower, and make herself look like a person. After all, she was seeing Tommy later, and she wasn't about to show up looking like a slob.

Before heading to the park, Chelsea stopped at Starbucks. Her addiction to frappuccinos was going to be the death of her. She got a tall one, and managed to drink the whole thing before even making it to the park. She tossed the empty cup into a trash can, and made her way over to a bench to wait for Tommy. She pulled our her phone and began checking things. Email, Twitter. The usual things. She was about to update her twitter status when she heard a familiar voice yelling behind her.

She whipped around just in time to see two slushies fly past her, and Tommy on the ground. She bit her lip to keep from laughing, but it didn't work. She got up and went to help him up. "Are you okay?" she asked, trying to fight off her giggles.

"Oh, I see you bein a betch, laughing at me," he said, grumbling a little bit; although he did take her hand and let her help him to his feet. Leave it to him to make a giant ass of himself - unintentionally, at least. Tommy generally didn't mind making an ass of himself, but he liked to do it when it was on his terms.

Once he was on his feet, though, he shook off the awkwardness - quite literally giving himself a little shake - and then gave Chelsea a bright grin to indicate that all was clearly forgotten. "Hello, friend!" he greeted, reaching out to pull her into a hug hello. He squeezed her tightly, but not too tightly, and gave her a kiss on the top of the head. "Even though I haven't got a delicious slushie treat for you, today is still going to be wicked fun."

"Oh, you love me," Chelsea said, pulling him up. "And just think of that as another wonderful performance by the amazing Thomas Jacobsen. People would've paid to see you make slushies fly past them."

She hugged him back, then kissed his cheek. "Hello, friend," she returned with a grin. "I think I'll be able to survive without a slushie. It might be difficult, but I think I'll be able to pull through. If it was coffee, though, then this would be a totally different conversation." She tucked her hair behind her ear. "So! What do you have in mind for our 'wicked fun' day?"

Tommy really did love her, in fact. She reminded him an awful lot of his baby sister, Rebecca, and hanging out with Chelsea was like being home in Chicago, playing stupid games like Lava that he and Becks made up when they were bored with the television. Ever since he'd met Chelsea a few years ago when they'd started rehearsals for 'Spring Awakening,' he'd had a special bond with the girl and their friendship had only grown stronger through the years until he was more than comfortable admitting aloud that he loved her like family.

"Well, we're starting with an epic 'catching-up' walk around the park, because you went and decided to get a life without me for reasons I can't figure out," he began, as he hooked her arm into his and started her off down the walkpath along with him, "then we're going to feed the ducks at the pond, and I'm so not going to push you in at all, and after that, we're going to play Freeze Tag with those kids and their moms over there. Get hyped." Tommy turned his head and gave her a bright smile and a jaunty wink. "Oh, and as long as you're sure about surviving slushieless ... I mean we could always detour back to the dega and get some new ones before rehearsal."

OOC: Sorry for the delay!! Super busy weekend.

"Sorry, I'll try not to have a life anymore without running it by you first," she said with a smile, shaking her head. She took his arm and lightly hugged it to her. "I like ducks. Rumor has it, they still say, 'quack.' We'll have to find out if that's true. I won't push you into them, and we'll find out that way." She glanced over at the kids. "I think the one in blue would destroy us all at Freeze Tag. He seems fast." She shrugged. "I might be craving one after some Freeze Tag. That takes a lot out of a person. And I think having a bright red tongue at rehearsal would earn me some major brownie points."

"If we find a gaggle of ducks, or whatever they call them, then we can absolutely test this theory of yours - except that I'll be the one not pushing you into them, just like I won't push you in the pond," he joked, quirking his eyebrows playfully at her.

Tommy then glanced back over to the group of younger kids he was planning on rallying into a group to play freeze tag with. "Yeah, that one looks like a real beast. He gets to be on my team. You can have ... that one," he indicated a smallish girl who looked like a strong wind would blow her over, "because girls need to stick together."
