[thread] - jace shore & riley hayes
Characters: [info]shore & [info]rileyhayes
Location: Julia Miles Theater, then off to Cafe Iguana
Summary: After the late-night show, Jace and Riley are going on a date. Wooooo.
Rating: TBD.

After playing merry hell with J.K. Rowling's sacred and seminal novels of underaged wizardry, running about backstage to take photos, laugh and congratulate the rest of the cast and crew, and assuring that he had all his belongings - yet somehow managing to miss that he still had a lightning bolt on his forehead, Jace Shore headed out to find his lovely lady for the night on the town he'd promised her or, rather, commanded of her. He firmly believed there was something to be said for perseverence and assertiveness - and hadn't she agreed? It was gradually becoming clear to Jace, though, that all the playful and seemingly innocent complimenting and flirting with Riley had developed into something rather different. He hadn't really felt 'that way' about a woman in quite a long time, and it gave him comfort that he wasn't totally bent - not that he felt there was anything wrong with being bent. It was just a bit scary to him, still, and he didn't want to venture into a label that didn't particularly fit.

But he found himself more and more taken with the gorgeous slightly-older woman, especially after having seen her in Rock of Ages the week-end before, and since she'd agreed to come out with him this evening after Liam's Potter extravaganza, he decided he was going to take full advantage of his time with her to determine whether or not she had anything more than friendly feelings towards him.

He spotted her after a few moments of searching and, after taking a moment to make certain he didn't appear too eager, sauntered over to her with a bright smile on his face. "'ello, love," he greeted, laying the accent and charm on thicker than ever. Of course, he was mostly joking, in reference to their earlier conversation. "Fancy a date with the one and only Boy Wizard?"

Riley had been looking forward to the musical immensely and maybe even a little bit more since Jace had asked, well, told her to come out with him afterward. She liked him, she did but she had been hesitant. Everything with Wyatt, or everything on her end and that was it anyway, had made things complicated. She hadn't dated since she had run off back to Boston and seeing him again and trying to decide if she really wanted to get back into the dating game, it was hard. But as the days went on, it because increasingly more apparent that she did need to move on. And that was exactly what she was going to do.

After her own show had wrapped, she actually took her time in changing and even redid her hair and makeup. Not only that, but she even dressed up a bit for the occasion. She couldn't very well go out with the star from the show and look like a bum now could she? No, of course not! So after getting ready and hurrying over to the theater, she sat back and waited to be amazed, which she was. The whole show had been hysterical and she couldn't remember the last time she had laughed so hard.

After the show, she waited for everyone to funnel out and deliberately made sure that she didn't somehow accidentally bump into Wyatt along the way. When she spotted Jace, a bright smile lit up her face and she leaned in to press a kiss to his cheek. "I don't know how I feel about being a cougar, but you're cute so why not?" she joked in reference to his having played a teenager. "This is cute by the way," she said as she reached up and touched the lightning bolt on his forehead. "I think you should leave it. Shall we?"

Naturally, she looked as gorgeous as ever. Jace couldn't even imagine what she would look like in bum-wear (although, he would likely find her just as beautiful in sweats, as in the cute outfit she'd chosen for their evening out). As for himself, he was dressed in much the same way as he always dressed - casual, but with a bit of a rocker's edge. He tended to dress that way all the time - formal-wear just didn't suit him (no pun intended). His mum was still after him about what he'd chosen to wear to the Tony Awards this year; not that it mattered much to him what she thought.

His hand ghosted after hers, brushing against his forehead and only then realising what she meant. "Well," he said, chuckling a little, "if I'm going to leave the bolt, I may as well dash back to the prop table and nick the glasses too. I can just see the headlines now - DanRad and the Cougar!" Jace actually had been mistaken for the Harry Potter star by the tabloids a couple times before, and it had always been rather humourous to him. Still, he didn't really want to invite the comparison for tonight, so he reached into his bag, pulled out a make-up removing towelette, and wiped his forehead clean.

Satisifed that he looked presentable once more, he offered Riley his arm. "We shall, then. I made us a reservation and everything - like a proper date," he said, quirking his eyebrows at her, before offering a genuine smile. "I hope you have your dancing shoes on."

Riley would never deny that Jace was an attractive man. He just was and even with the confidence and swagger he had, he was still sexy without being over the top. Which was a good thing because Riley was by no means a flashy type of person. She much preferred keeping a low profile and doing homebody type things, which if she thought about it might not interest Jace all that much but she was getting up there in the years, heh, and was set in her ways.

A bright laugh parted her lips and she shook her head. "Great, just what I need," she said with a slight roll of her eyes. The whole cougar thing was just laughable in her opinion and the last thing she needed was for that to get splashed on the cover of some tabloid and her father to come across it. He'd likely end up having a heart attack. "Aww, I thought it was cute," she said as she feigned a pout. "But I suppose it's okay since you're still cute," she added with a wink.

Taking his arm, she gave a nod. "Oh really? Well, well, don't I feel special?" Which she actually did because clearly he meant that he was serious about this whole date thing. "Are you kidding? All of my shoes are dancing shoes." Flip flops, boots, didn't matter what they were, she could dance in them but then again, that came with the whole dancer territory and she had been born to dance.

Walking with him, they made their way out and hailed a cab. Slipping in, she waited for him to settle in next to her and even leaned against him a bit. "Thanks for asking me out to dinner," she said once they had given the driver their destination.

He really did believe her about the dancing shoes bit; while he wasn't exactly a 'dancer' in the traditional sense, he took his profession seriously enough to take dance lessons. It had paid off back home when he'd portrayed Link Larkin in the West End production of Hairspray. It didn't necessarily come naturally to him, though, and from what he could tell of natural dancers, their ability never left them. They simply exuded grace and flow of movement - he could certainly see that in Riley.

Once they were in their seats, and he noticed that she was leaning in a bit, he smiled and reached his arm around to rest against the back of the seat behind her head. If she seemed receptive to it after a few moments, he'd absolutely put his arm around her shoulders. Frankly, it was all going rather well, and he hadn't even had to do anything yet. Perhaps she did like him a little bit. "You're welcome. Thanks for saying yes. I've been wanting to ask for a while, but you know...hiding, working up the nerve and all that," he said, somewhat shyly. Jace wasn't really shy, wasn't really shy around her either, but he did feel a bit sheepish in that moment, admitting it to her. He hadn't really been hiding from her of course, but he'd been caught up in work and his vacation week - not really focusing on much of anything other than that.

Riley really was trying to get into this whole date so yes, she did lean against him and yes, she was receptive to him placing her arm around her shoulders. In fact, it was rather nice. It was nice to feel wanted, if that really was the case and he wasn't just being nice or flirty. She had had her doubts in the beginning but rather than think too much on it, she was just going with the flow and from what she could remember of dating, ha, that meant touching and being cozy with each other.

Her eyes widened a bit with surprise at the sound of his admission. "Really?" She honestly had trouble believing that Jace of al people would have to work up the nerve to ask her out. She knew he had to have countless people throwing themselves at him so it was a bit of a shock to hear that somehow he was intimidated by her. "Well, I'm glad you finally did," she said with complete sincerity. Smiling to herself, she hesitated before placing her hand lightly on the top of his leg just above his knee.

When they arrived at the restaurant, she slipped out after him and took his arm so that he could lead them inside. "You know, I don't think I've ever actually been here before."

Pleased by her reaction to his admission, Jace settled his arm around her shoulders, grinning when she put her hand on his knee. He was never the sort to over-analyse a situation or people's actions - mostly because he wasn't exactly the deepest thinker - so as far as he was concerned, she was feeling him, at least a little bit, and that gave him the courage to proceed as he normally would. He gently rubbed her shoulder as the ride continued and placed his free hand atop hers on his knee, stroking his thumb over her skin. Sometimes he knew the right moves.

Like a gentleman, he helped her out of the cab and then led her to the restaurant. "I've only been once before, with some friends, but the food is delicious and the atmosphere is really fun. I think you'll love it," he replied, as he opened the door to the cafe for her and ushered her inside.

He moved up to the hostess and indicated his name for the reservation. Within moments, they were being shown to their table. Jace pulled out the chair for her and then went around to the other side of the table to sit down across from her. The table they were at was relatively intimate, but still had decent access to the dance floor. After taking a sip of water, he looked straight at her, laughter in his eyes. "All right, so tell me truly...was I terribly inappropriate or what?"

A faint blush came across her cheeks when she felt his hand on hers and she glanced down at it and smirked. Well, so far so good! She even got that fun little tingling sensation she had almost forgotten about. It was nice, really nice in fact.

"Well I'm really looking forward to it," she said as they stepped inside. Clutching her purse while she waited for him to check in, she looked around and gave an unconscious nod of approval. Not typically the sort of place she would seek out on her own, but definitely one that was good for a date. Glancing up when they were being led to their table, she smiled and then thanked him when he pulled out her chair. Such a gentleman he was!

Taking a seat, she set her purse down and then placed her hands in her lap. She felt a little awkward but it had absolutely nothing to do with the restaurant or Jace and everything to do with her, but she was trying. Chuckling a bit at his question, she flashed him a bright grin. "Completely and utterly inappropriate," she laughed. "You were fabulous, really. Definitely the star of the show." He really had been her favorite of the evening. "But I'm sure you already knew that," she said as she sent a wink his way.

When the waitress arrived, she decided to get a little crazy and ordered herself a tequila and orange juice. Just a little something to take the edge off. Glancing over to the dance floor, she focused on the one couple that seemed to know what they were doing. Pressing her lips together, she watched their footwork and committed the steps to memory. "That doesn't look too terribly hard," she mused aloud.

Any awkwardness that Riley might have been feeling was utterly lost on Jace; to him, she seemed just as lovely as she always was whenever they saw each other. Of course, they had never really spent all that much alone time together, and certainly not under the auspices of a "date". Either way, though, he thought that things really were going well so far. At the very least, she hadn't run screaming from the restaurant or anything.

Laughing, he clapped his hands together. "Oh good, good. I barely managed to restrain myself earlier today at the kids show. Tonight was the best though. It was really a great time." The stage was probably Jace's favourite place in the world, and as much as he loved being in Hair, the show got horribly depressing at the end, so it was really great to be able to run around on stage doing something that was just silly and fun.

He listened to her order, and he perked up a bit when she ordered herself an actual drink, so he followed suit and ordered the same for himself. Jace wasn't normally a big tequila drinker, but he didn't dislike it either. Jace then followed her gaze out to the dance floor and smiled when she commented on what she was seeing. "You're probably going to have to lead me around," he said, chuckling a little bit. "I'd wager you're actually secretly amazing at salsa dancing, and you just want me to feel better about being a horrible clod."

Riley could really only smile and laugh along as he got excited. "For some reason I don't doubt that," she teased. After the pelvic thrusting at the Tonys, she didn't peg Jace as a person who liked to keep things kid friendly if he could help it. Not that it was a bad thing or anything like that. "I'm sad that it only had such a short run though," she said with a smirk. "I'm sure it would kill on Broadway." Personally, she would have paid to see it again.

She wasn't much of a drinker, mainly because she didn't like that morning after hang over feeling, but everyone once in a while she'd drink to loosen up a bit. And since this was her first real date since her last relationship, she figured she needed it. But really, she needed to stop thinking about that last relationship because then she might actually verbalize it and that was the last thing that either of them needed. Especially since he knew Wyatt at least superficially anyway. Oh God, were they close? That could be awkward later.

Rolling her eyes, she shook her head. "Oh please, I bet you're actually a professional salsa dancer in disguise." Not that she really thought that but she wouldn't have been surprised either. "I will promise to do my best and not step on your toes," she added with a smirk. There was no way she was going to be able to do anything fancy without practice but she'd at least be able to get the basic steps down quickly enough.

When the waiter reappeared with their drinks, she thanked him and then raised her glass. "To the beginning of a fabulous first date."
