Who Lola and Benny
What Questionable Behaviour aka getting iced hot chocolate
Where A starbucks near you!
When Wednesday afternoon
Rating Pg-13 for language, most likely. Lola's got a feisty vocab.

Lola stayed in bed until about noon, calling in to say she couldn't make the show that evening, and generally moped about. After Kenzie's verbal hit and run of the evening before, Lola was left reeling. With no warning, she had apparently had become a bad news Brown for the man, and her love was trumped by his sister's 'protection' and 'honesty'.

"Besides the fact that I honestly didn't do a thing with Benny besides be his friend," Lola grumbled as she peeled herself out of bed, going to take a bath that was rather long and rather tear filled. She had been crying off and on since the man had left, anything really pushing her to the point of tiny sobs. It didn't help that a lot of things in her apartment made her think of Kenzie-which had never been a bad thing, before he decided he had been wrong about her and that she was a floozy-so she stayed in her bathroom a long while, sulking in her tub.

After the bath of woe, Lola went to her computer and decided to try and just write down what she was feeling. It didn't really help, but she got to talking to Benny. Benny. Right. The one she apparently was being questionable with. What on Earth did that even mean, anyway? She had no idea. She had played with his hair at practice once? She had sat and laughed with him? So what? When did having a friend become a crime? Yes, she had been interested in him before she met Kenzie, but she loved Kenzie. But, apparently that was not really enough. He had lied about that. He didn't trust her. And no one would care that Kenzie broke her heart because Kenzie was the Ellisson King of Broadway, and Lola had only been the British tart he had been seeing. She was switching back and forth from pining for the man and being angry at him for completely dismissing her feelings due to his damn sisters and their damn gossiping.

The more she talked with Benny, the more frustrated she got with her situation, and finally, she just huffed, pushed back from her lap top and got herself dressed, pulling out her cell and texting Benny a simple:

U. Me. Starbucks in 30?

Before she was out the door. Benny was someone Lola had been able to talk to, he had been a good friend, and he made her smile, and fuck Kenzie if he didn't want Lola smiling. She wasn't going to be dumped-or whatever it was Kenzie did the night before, not feeling good about them or whatever, maybe wanting a break, maybe wanting it over, whatever-and not go see her friends because there was a chance Kenzie would not think she was slut if she didn't. She was sick of jumping through hoops. She had played nice with Stella, she had played nice with Nora, and it wasn't enough. If Kenzie didn't trust her, there was nothing Lola could do, and she wanted a damn iced hot chocolate since the one she had attempted to make the night before ended up getting her dumped.

She was at the Starbucks in fifteen minutes and hoped Benny would be there soon. She ordered a iced hot chocolate with extra whipped cream and moved to sit by the window. Surely to God, if the Ellisson girls got wind of her going out with Benny the day after Kenzie told her that he had to take care of him and not be with her, etc., they would think they were having an illicit affair, but frankly, they thought Lola and Benny were having an affair when they were just talking online. So, she couldn't please them. Or Kenzie, apparently. So. She had some of her whipped cream, putting it on her finger and licking it off, and sighed.

Life was balls at that moment, plain and simple.

And of course, Benny replied without hesitation:

Absolutely! Be there in 30-ish.

And then he got to thinking; Wasn't Lola sick just 5 minutes ago when he talked to her?

Wait. Are you sure? Are you feeling better?

Either way, Benny tucked his phone back into his jeans pocket and went to finish getting himself looking presentable. He'd certainly join her at Starbucks! Afterall, it was one of his favorite places ever.

Benny had no clue about Lola's and Kenzie's break up, but if he did? Well.. Benny would try to refrain from saying some rude things. He loved the Ellissons. But Kenzie? Well, Benny never really fancied himself a friend of Kenzie's. It's not like he went around badmouthing him or insulting him to his face or anything. He remained friendly. He just never really talked to the guy if he didn't have to. Especially after he stole Lola away from him in the first place.

As far as Benny was concerned, nothing had happened between him and Lola. Lola was a flirt, sure. So was Benny! But they were friends, and what was wrong with laughing together and chatting at rehearsals, between scenes? Lola played with his hair once. Maybe twice. But that was it. And it was absolutely harmless. Well, on his part anyway. He wasn't sure what Lola's intentions were, but he didn't think she was trying to 'seduce' him per se.

Lola had already told Benny that she loved Kenzie. She'd told Benny that she wanted to be with Kenzie and that she hoped that would be okay with him. He straight up told her that if Kenzie was who she wanted to be with, that she should go for it! So after that conversation, Benny had backed off. Besides, at the time, he was still pining after Nora. But he was pretty sure he was over that now. He still held a little special place in his heart for Nora-- you know, if she ever wanted to maybe be friends with him again or something. But he was pretty sure that wasn't going to happen, especially after having her pretty much accuse him of stalking her. At least that was how Benny had taken it. It hurt, yeah. But he was over it. He still adored the woman, but it was obvious that things would never work out. He just wanted her to forgive him and at least try and be friendly with him again. That would make him happy.

Alas, so, Benny hadn't been after Lola since she'd started dating Kenzie. He hadn't even thought of her like that. He was just friends with her. Of course he'd heard rumors every now and then about him and Lola-- but he never understood that. They were silly rumors and accusations.

Benny was running late-- but only by 10 minutes or so. He made his way inside and paused to curiously look around to see if he could spot Lola. He smiled when he saw her at a table already, and gave a wave before heading over to the front counter to order his usual Grande Cinnamon Dolce White Mocha Frappuccino.

Lola didn't even hear her phone the second time, but had she, she would have sort of cursed over that. She knew she hadn't told Benny exactly why she was feeling under the weather, and she sort of assumed he would know for no real reason since she was sure no one knew about Kenzie's tossing of her besides herself and Kenzie. And all of Kenzie's family. But that was beside the point.

Lola would be relieved to have Benny be on her side of things, when they got to it, and it just surprised her that Kenzie wasn't. He had known she was as she was, and he had defended her, but something had changed. Who knew what, but it had, and so Lola was tossed to the bin without warning. It was a good thing they were at her place when he did it, or else she would have had to crawl home a wreck. He had been thoughtful that way. If one could apply 'thoughtful' to Kenzie at that point. Lola was trying.

She didn't think of Benny as a prospect since she had gotten involved with Kenzie, since she was, as she had said, head over heels for the man. Benny was her friend, a good friend, a dear friend, but a friend. And not one with benefits, either!

She was sipping her iced hot chocolate when Benny arrived and she gave a wave to him in return, taking in a breath and feeling awkward over the wave of emotion that hit her, looking down and trying to casually wipe under each eye. She was not going to cry in Starbucks. Not. No. But seeing Benny smile at her felt so nice after what had happened with Kenzie and-and. She was not going to cry.

Here was hoping he didn't ask if she was alright, though. She knew she'd fall apart if he did. And seeing as her eyes were red, her smile close to a frown, and her hands were a bit shaky, it was more than likely going to be the first thing she as asked. There was the rub about meeting in public. Sure, she wouldn't look like some triumphant slut, getting her lover to come over after her boyfriend finally left (lies, lies!), but she would look like a weepy woman sitting in a Starbucks. Oh well. Her iced hot chocolate was good, at least.

Benny didn't notice Lola crying-- yet. He was busy buying his drink. After picking it up at the counter when they called his name, he grabbed up one of the cardboard sleeves to put on it so his hand wouldn't get cold and turned to make his way over to where his friend was perched at her table.

Smiling, he pulled out the chair across from her and slid into it while he took a sip of his cinnamon dolce white mocha frap.

"What's up?"

See? The first thing he asked her wasn't about her well being! He was starting to notice that her eyes were red and puffy, though.. Allergies? She said she was sick. A cold. Colds could do that, right?

"So you're feeling better? Is it a cold, you think? Or Allergies?"

She mustered up a smile when he sat down and held a hand against her cheek, at the ready to get any stray tears. Sneaky bitches that tears were and all.

"Well," She started to tell him what was up when he asked if she was feeling better and she gave a little shake of her head a tiny huff of a laugh coming from her, "No, well. No, I'm not feeling better, and it's not a cold, nor allergies, and really, I'm going to sound like a big girl, but then, I am a girl, but-"

And there was where she faltered a bit, feeling the burning that signaled the start of those damned tears, "But I'm rather a bit torn up, Benny, since Kenzie tossed me last night, and I didn't know what to do, and rather than being professional and going on and working, I'm here, cr-crying into my whipped cream," Because her tears were already building up quickly in her eyes, threatening to fall, so she waved her hand a bit as if as distraction, the other wiping at them.

"I'm sorry, love. I'm a bit of a mess, and pro-probably should have stayed in," She mumbled with one of those smiles you gave when you felt absolutely awful but you wanted to make a joke so that the person you were with did feel as awkward. And that never worked to do as much.

Benny's brows furrowed with concern as he watched Lola's actions and behavior before lifting in shock at Lola's announcement that Kenzie had dumped her. "What?" Was Lola serious? Yes, you idiot! She was serious! She was sitting in front of him about to cry her eyes out. Suddenly he felt awful for dumping Nora. But that was another story.

He scoffed and set his drink down, and reached across the table to take ahold of her hand that was waving around. He gave it a gentle squeeze, "I don't know what to tell you, Baby. I'm sorry." He felt bad for Lola. He didn't like seeing her so upset. He didn't like seeing anyone upset! Especially those he cared about.

"It wasn't because of me, was it? And.. and if it makes you feel any better, when I broke it off with Nora-- I missed what? at least two weeks? Not all at once.. but.. yeah." He wasn't going to tell her not to cry. It was okay to cry. In some cases, it helped.

"Oh, darling," Lola sighed, and a few tears just went for it, her hand grasping his when he took hers, "Of course it was. They don't trust me as far as they can throw me, and I'm apparently tarting around with you! I had no idea, did you?" She looked at him, absolutely confused and hurt and sad and all things one shouldn't be in Starbucks.

"Kenzie said I was being 'questionable' with you. And that he didn't feel good about 'us'. Him and I. Then he said he had to take care of him and that he couldn't be with me right now. What does that mean? He said Stella was honest! Honest!" She waved the hand not holding Benny's now, "If she were honest, you and I'd be shagging right now! We're not shagging!" Perhaps she should lower her voice, she thought after the old woman sitting a table over looked at her. She frowned.

"He seems keen to choose his family over me."

Benny's brows furrowed when she said that he was the cause of what had happened. Perhaps not everything, but he was supposedly a part of it.

And that?

Pissed him off.

He stared at Lola for a good long moment while he sorted through everything in his head. Eventually he snapped back into the real world, shaking his head, "No. No, I didn't know." He scoffed, "What? That I?" He pointed to her, "questionable? That I was being questionable with you?" He rolled his eyes, "Jesus," He shook his head again.

He had to remember this was about Lola. Not him. Lola had just been dumped. Not him. She was the one sitting in the middle of Starbucks crying her eyes out. Not him.

But damnit.

He was madder than hell! "We're not! I haven't shagged anyone in what? two years?" He rolled his eyes yet, again, and leaned in closer. "I'm sorry," he sighed, "I'm sorry, Lola. I'm sorry Kenzie dumped you..."

He didn't know what else to say without maybe throwing a chair or two.

"Well, I think it was more an attack on me, love, but yes, 'questionable' was the word," She nodded a little, the heel of her hand wiping at her eye. She swallowed and pushed her hair back from her face before fixing it again so it did shield her a bit. She was crying in Starbucks. She didn't need someone recognizing her now, when showing her appreciation to a fan seemed like the last thing she could do right then.

She nodded at his apology as well, "Thank you, darling. I'm sorry, too. I don't know. I didn't see it coming. Maybe I am awful. I thought I was taking care of him, you know? I...But I offered him a iced hot chocolate and he dumped me. He could have said 'no' to the iced hot chocolate. He didn't have to toss me to get out of it," She babbled a bit, and she gave a hiccup of a sob at the end, "And my cousin's wedding is next weekend and-and he was my plus one. He was going to meet my family. I. I put up with his family's hatred and my family was so excited to meet him and now he tosses me a week before it," She put both hands over her face now.

If she hadn't taken the 'questionable' business to heart, she would have just had Benny come over. It would be better than sobbing in Starbucks. At least she was doing it quietly.

"No, yeah. I get that. I get that it was an attack on you. Of course it was. But they just had to throw me in the mix too. I'm always in the fucking wrong place at the wrong fucking time." He rolled his eyes, "and it pisses me off to think they'd go around gossiping about me fooling around with you when you're clearly someone else's to fool around with, you know? I'm not that bad. Damn."

He shook his head and moved to get up, wandering away a moment to go over and grab up some napkins for her at the bar. Returning, he held them across to her as he sank back into his chair, "C'mon, Lola... you know it wasn't because of the iced hot chocolate," the thought of it made him chuckle a bit. He couldn't help it.

Sighing, he brought his hand up to rub at his temple, "it's not the iced hot chocolate. You and I both know that it all has to do with a little bit of everything and everyone. Me and you because we're friends. You, because you're naturally flirtatious-- but who gives a fuck? It's not like you've gone out with other guys and shagged them. What the hell." He frowned, thinking a moment, "and of course, his family. Oooh, the Ellissons." he chuckled somewhat and shook his head.

"The Ellissons. You can't help but love them. But I certainly don't think the Von Trapps loved gossip as much as they do. Or would get as jealous of the attention of Kurt as they do for Kenzie." Frowning, Benny shook his head some more, "I don't know, Lola. It's always going to be our word against theirs. It kind of makes me wish we had had a fiery passionate affair. Then we could laugh in their faces and tell them So. Fucking. What."

Huffing, Benny moved to reach across to Lola again, "it'll be okay, Lola. If they don't believe you, they can suck it. And if Kenzie would rather please his sisters... well.. " he nodded, "let them be family." He pointed to her, "but if you find a horse head in your bed or anything... You should probably forget the whole thing, alright?" He gave his friend a hopeful smile.

"The wrong fucking place, dear, that place being between my legs, apparently," Lola said, absently as she reached for an offered napkin and dabbed a bit under her eyes, "I never thought of you as someone who would get on with someone who was taken, love. And I would never, ever cheat on Kenzie. Ever. I was cheated on in my last relationship, you know. It hurts. I don't want that for Kenzie," Her head shook a few times as she sighed heavily. Apparently, however, Kenzie thought he had that. She just couldn't believe that he didn't trust her, after all this time.

"And I know it wasn't the iced hot chocolate. It was my tartish ways. But wouldn't it be nice if it were just the iced hot chocolate?" She questioned, trying a smile, though it was a bit wobbly. She was trying, but it was a bit soon to laugh.

"I thought he loved me as I was," Lola replied to the 'naturally flirtatious' business, "And if he was so upset, why didn't he talk to me? And I thought I at least had the...I don't know, respect of the other sisters besides Stella. I like Sammy! She's a lovely-lovely girl," She broke there for a little hiccup of emotion, "But apparently she thinks I'm a slut," Her hands went over her face and she shook her head as Benny went on about Von Trapps.

"Don't bring the Von Trapps into this. I love that family, and this will just ruin them!" She shook her head a few times, hair flopping about as she bit her lip, taking a few deep breaths, trying to calm down while in public, "I just want to know why they hate me. That's all. All I did was love their brother and be friends with you. I played with other people's hair! It wasn't just yours! I'm a bloody tactile person, I like to touch!" She had a flare of anger, "How dare they assume that I would have an affair because I was your friend! I don't go accusing Stella of having affairs whenever she flirts with Kale Nolan, do I? No! But she does! She does, and she is allowed because she's a bloody Ellisson, and unless you are a bloody Ellisson, you aren't safe."

She took Benny's hand and shook her head, "I can't forget it, Benny. I love Kenzie. I do. Even if he is choosing to believe his family over me. Even if he thinks I'm some whore. Even if he chose to dump me rather than talk to me about his concerns. Even if our relationship was focused and controlled completely by his family," She put her elbow on the table and her head rested on her palm, "I guess it boils down to the fact that I was willing to love him forever, and he was willing to love me until something came up," Her lip wibbled and she looked down, tears forming again, "I was going to ask him to move in together. Get our own flat."

Benny worried his lip and shook his head, leaning back into his chair and crossing his arms over his chest, "yeah, well. Apparently that's what everyone thinks about us." He meant that term loosely. He didn't literally mean everyone. Just those people that seemed like they were out to get him. And Lola.

"Yeah, Lola, but they don't see you playing with those other people's hair. They just see you and me. It's like they fucking watch us like hawks." He nodded to her comment about the Ellisson family and sighed, "I dunno, Lola. I just don't know anymore."

Benny watched Lola a moment and then sat forward again, leaning against the table as he kept his focus on her. "So just be glad you didn't then, huh?"

"Why, though! Why do they think so poorly of you and I? I don't know why I'm so awful to them! I don't!" Lola waved her hands a bit, "The worst thing I've ever done is call Stella a nosy twit for saying she was watching me and you at the Damn Yankees rehearsals! That's it!" She flailed, "Well, that and called her a bitch, but really, with all I've put up with for him from his family, I think the least he could do is take his sister whining about my calling her a bitch!" She huffed.

Her fingers went back through her hair and she sighed heavily, slumped a bit in her chair, feeling like crud. And not new crud, but old, crusty crud. So bad. "Sorry you were brought into all this, darling."

She rubbed her heel of her hand at her cheek, shaking her head, "I suppose. Could have been worse. I could have made the iced hot chocolates, sat down, asked about moving in, and then have him basically call me a whore. That would feel awful. Not that this doesn't, of course."

Benny rolled his eyes and shook his head, "Dunno. But maybe we just think they're out to get us.. Because apparently-- I'm the victim of everything. At least that's what they say I think." He shrugged, "You know what I say to that? So. Fucking. what. Big deal."

Sitting back in his chair again, he picked up his cup to take another sip, "You know, Lola. I think I don't care anymore. About what they say. About what anyone says." He set his cup back down, "and it's alright. Don't worry. I'll get over it."

He smirked at her remark, "I know what you mean. I'm sorry he ditched you, Lola. But if there was going to be a scandal about me and anyone, I'm glad it's you."

Rubbing her face, fussing with her hair, and being generally fidgety, Lola sighed, smiling a touch over Benny's comment about the scandal being with her, "Oh, love," Lola heaved a heavy sigh and shook her head, "I'm glad it was with you, too. I just wish that he trusted me. I guess...I thought that I could be trusted. But apparently not," She shrugged her shoulders, sitting up a bit, sniffling and reaching for her iced hot chocolate, having a sip.

"He trusted his family over me, and I suppose it shouldn't surprise me."

Smiling, Benny held another napkin over to Lola, "I can't say that I disagree with the whole family thing... I'd be overly protective of my family too. But luckily they're all over in another part of the state. And technically, aren't you supposed to stick with your family no matter what? Family first and all of that?" He shrugged.

"Ohwell, Lola. I wish I knew how to help. Things will be okay, later on down the road."

And he was going to meet them and they were going to meet him and they were all excited," She wibbled again, putting her hand over her mouth and just trying to stop from sobbing.
