Caelee didn't know what to say, so she just listened and let Trace speak. She nodded quietly as he explained what had happened, smiling a little as she pictured just what Sandy had said and what her expression had likely been. She could imagine it as though she had been right there. The smile didn't reach her eyes, though, and it faded completely when he got to the accident.
"I know, Trace," she said simply, tightening her arms around him. This was horrible for her, but it had to be so much worse for him, to have that memory, to know what it had sounded like. Caelee was left to her own imagination and that was bad enough. She couldn't even believe this was happening.
