She knew he was hurt, though. She could see it on his face and hear it in his voice. Cassie dropped her gaze, unable to keep looking at him. She felt horrible. Now that they'd been caught, it seemed stupid that she hadn't confided in him.
"It's- since New Years, I guess," she answered. "I know I- we should have told you, but-" The fact that she was trying to explain it in front of Charles just made the conversation more awkward. Her cheeks warmed as she tried to articulate what she hadn't even gotten the nerve to say to Charles, yet. "I didn't really know what- to tell you." What this was.
