Thomas really had meant for it to be just a small party with the people he and Riley knew. And then he'd told Bee to invite whoever she wanted, he couldn't very well tell the rest of Highway 21 they couldn't invite people too. Not that he would have. He liked meeting new people. It was one of the reasons he was having this party. To meet some people he could hang out with himself and get some idea of the type of people his sister was hanging out with. It wasn't that he didn't trust her judgment, it was just that he wanted to protect her even more after the things her friends in New York had gotten involved in. His high school career hadn't been spotless by any means, he'd done his fair share of drinking and drugs before graduation and he knew he was just lucky that none of those parties had ended the way Riley's had, with him in the hospital. He looked around for his sister and saw her talking with someone on the other side of the room and he smiled to himself, it had been a rough year for both of them but it looked like Luna Bay could be good for them both.
Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves so far and none of the teenagers that Riley and Amelia had invited seemed to be getting drunk which was a relief to him. He didn't care if they drank, his parents had let him drink when he was still in high school and he didn't think he was old enough yet to be hypocritical. He just didn't want any of them getting drunk. He made his way through the party, stopping to talk to people he knew and a few that he didn't know yet, especially the pretty girls that were there. He didn't know whether it was Dex or Kyle that had invited them and at the moment he didn't care. He'd been serious when he told Kyle he wasn't going to be a monk just because he had Riley living with him. He was just going to be a lot more careful.
