Who: Thanatos
What: Unexpected demon hunting
Where: haunted hotel in a historic district of Miami
When: Last Night
Warnings: light description of violence and wounds
Because of the violent nature of the haunting, the owners of the hotel had barred reservations on the thirteenth floor of the building. Not even the staff would set foot there anymore, which suited Thanatos just fine. The fewer mortals around, the better. Getting rid of poltergeists tended to be messy business.
However, he didn’t know quite how messy the business would get until he found himself flung painfully against a wall, staring down not a poltergeist, but a child-sized, but physically strong demon. It’s too-wide for its face maw curled into a hungry, toothy smile, and the stomach churning stench of brimstone became even stronger in the air. The damned beast had managed to catch Thanatos off guard and tore him up a fair bit before the god could even realize what it was that was attacking him. As his ichor streamed down his face from the gash over his left eye and soaked through several places in his clothing on the rest of his body, Than glared daggers at the creature, tightening his grip on his scythe before leaping back into the fray.
At daybreak, Thanatos could do little more than growl with frustration as, after several hours of hard fighting, stalking, and being stalked, the demon managed to slip out of his grasp just as the sun rose over the horizon. He knew this particular type of demon would not move about during daylight, but they were near impossible to track down when they hunkered down for the morning. The death god had spent most of the night in a semi corporeal state, so his spilt flowing ichor did not land on the physical reality of the hotel. This did nothing for the pain he felt, nor how light-headed he felt now that his adrenaline rush was fading.
Swearing to himself under his breath, he stayed in the hotel just long enough to put up a few wards that would prevent the demon from escaping the building before finally making his way home, with the intent to lick his wounds and recuperate as much as he could before the evening, when he could finally erase the hellborn creature from existence.
Summary: Thanatos goes out to take care of what he thought was just a simple poltergeist haunting, and finds out the hard way that it’s actually a minor, but strong, demon plaguing the hotel’s 13th floor. Both demon and death are injured, but still alive. Slippery demon escapes and Than goes home to lick his wounds.
