Who: Hades & Persephone
What: Rain Meetings
Where: Somewhere rainy
When: After this
Warnings: None. Well, maybe to Hestia, but none really.
It was raining. Hades didn't know when, but it was now raining. It wasn't raining hard. The droplets barely made his clothes wet before they dried away. Maybe that was why he didn't notice. Or maybe it was because of the fury Hades was walking with. His anger blinded him to most things now, even to its actual cause and he did nothing to make sense of it. Mentally he didn't understand the cause, but his heart did. His heart did and it hoped that letting it consume him in such a way would burn out faster. Maybe then the ancient scar would close up again.
Persephone excused her absence from Delaney with the knowledge that she was in good hands with Mallory. It was nice to have someone she trusted in the house, someone who felt like family. After her last conversation with Hades, she had a lot on her mind. Now that she knew that he loved her, she had to wonder what her part would be in this new extended family. How much was too much too much to ask of him after everything she'd done? It was raining, but she didn't mind. It helped focus her mind, and spring showers had always made her feel better to begin with.
The only storm Hades noticed was his own. The rain didn't exist to him and even with his perfect night vision, he didn't seem to see Persephone either, even as he passed her.
Persephone almost didn't notice Hades herself until the passing chill touched her shoulder. She gasped, spinning her head around. She took a step, catching him by the hand.
Like a beast, he pulled back his hand, wheeling around to face whoever dared touch him. His dark eyes flashed his anger but he gave pause , “You. Why do you people insist on grabbing me?”
Persephone pulled her hand back, apology all over her place. "Sorry, I wasn't thinking. I just...realized it was you." She shrunk back a bit.
“Forgiven.” He then turned back around and took a step away, but broken from the automatic nature of his furious march, Hades didn't know where he was going anymore.
"Where you going?" She asked, following in step behind him. Something in his face had her worried, so now she couldn't just leave him alone. She hurried so she was in front of him. "What's wrong?"
Her being in front of him gave him direction for a moment. He had to go around her, “Don't know.”
"But you're not okay," she said, trotting along after him. "C'mon...let's get out of the rain and we can talk about it. Okay?"
Something in his brain snapped at the suggestion. “No. Going in from the rain is how things start.” And then Hades blinked, all his movement stopped. Confusion snuck into his anger clouding it, “... It's raining?”
Persephone nodded, her wet hair clinging to her face in an attractive fashion. "We can just go find a dry place to sit...you don't seem alright."
Hades stared down at the ground much in the same way he would have stared at the murderer of a child -- terribly, “[I'm not alright.]”
Persephone slowly extended her hand to him. "[C'mon...we'll go sit by those trees and talk about it. Whatever it is, I'm here to help.]"
Hades turned his eyes to her hand but then moved to walk toward the trees, “[Don't want to talk about it.]”
"[Then we can just sit for awhile,]" she replied, following quickly after him. "[We don't have to talk about anything you don't want to talk about...]" I just need to keep an eye on you for now.
“[I guess I walked enough to sit if you're here.]” Where was he anyway? Hades didn't even know and he didn't want to look around and find out. He was a man who hated surprises, but this was more of living in a mystery.
She encouraged him to sit in the wet grass before joining him. Persephone sat in silence, knees hugged to her chest as she glanced at him with a fond smile. "[Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?]"
Hades sat in the wet grass without a care about doing so, staring straight ahead toward nothing and then he shrugged.
Persephone carefully scooted closer, and after a moment, she placed an arm around her shoulders. "[I'm sorry you're not feeling well...]"
“[Sure you do...]” Hades murmured, before he sighed and closed his eyes, “[Now what do you want to say?]”
"[Hmm?]" Persephone blinked, quirking her head curiously. "[I...didn't really have anything to say. I was just worried about you when I saw you.]"
There had to be more. There was always more lately it seemed, “[And?]”
"[And...I...love you?]" She replied, perplexed as to what he was looking for. "[I'm confused. Did I do something wrong?]"
Hades shrugged again. He didn't quite know what he was looking for either. Instead, he decided to look up to the sky. “[No, not that I know of.]” The rain clouded blocked the stars, “[It's just all gray.]”
Persephone followed his gaze to the sky. "[When it finishes raining and the clouds move on, the stars will be even brighter...]"
“[Are you speaking in metaphor or are you talking about the actual sky?]” He asked softly, glaring hard at the rain clouds. Rain clouds made him think of Zeus and Zeus wasn't high on his list of favorite people at the moment.
"[The actual sky,]" she replied with a smile, noticing his glare. "[What'd those clouds do to piss you off?]"
“[They remind me of your father,]” Hades easily confessed and then leaning back against his hands, he quickly added, “[And they look like headless giraffes but all jammed together]”
"[You're right. They do.]" She put on her best glare and joined him. "[What has my stupid father done to you? You're typically not this angry with his foolishness...]"
“[What he didn't do is the problem currently. He keeps not telling me things until its too late. I'm suddenly glad we all fell now and he has no say over my life or anyone else's. Now he can be a slow ass on his own time.]” Hades' anger was slowly beginning to cool in his stillness and it was condensing into sorrow and grief, like steam does into water. “[I may be responsible for my own murders but he put the knife into my hand and sent me into the streets. Who got me drunk, I'm not quite sure... And that is a metaphor. I didn't actually kill anyone with a knife your father gave me in a drunken fit.]”
"[Oh good. I was worried.]" Persephone breathed a sigh of relief. "[I was afraid there was a lot we were going to have to cover up for there...]" She placed a comforting arm around his shoulders. "[I hate seeing you sad...]"
Hades remained still, “[You must hate seeing me all the time then.]”
"[I love seeing you. I hate the sadness...I hate knowing that oftentimes I'm the cause of it. But I love it when I can help...]" She switched her hands around so that she could rub circles over his back.
“[This time this isn't your fault. I think...]” Hades looked down to the wet grass, his anger cooling more and more into sorrow as both the real past and the alternate one that could have been... And how the worst events in his life might not have been. He put his head in his hands, “[I think... in the end, its still always my fault. But I don't like having been pushed there.]”
"[Look...it's hard to say much without context, but it probably isn't your fault,]" Persephone murmured, keeping the steady touch across his spine. "[You're too hard on yourself.]"
Quickly, Hades rolled his shoulders and scooted up to remove her touch, “[No. It is my fault.]” His mind began to catch up with the knowledge of his heart then and sighed, “[I was just angry that maybe I wouldn't have had to been on that crossroad. That so much of all my shit didn't have to happen.]”
Persephone frowned, knowing specifically what "it" was. "[Haven't we been over this before?]" she cooed softly, trying to be comforting without her touch. "[What happened...it was a necessary evil. And I wasn't hurt. If anything it made me better...]"
Hades shook his head, and almost a sarcastic smirk spread across his face, “[Ironically, its not about you. It didn't make me better.]”
Persephone's eyes fell away from him, nodding softly. "[I know. I'm sorry....but what does that have to do with something my father did? Beyond his giving me to you since I don't think that's what we're discussing...]"
“[He has a bad habit it seems of giving me women but not getting me that message until it is much too late.]” Sighing, he scooted back to where he had been originally, looking back up to the skies. “[And she abandoned me to my own devices... And then didn't even defend me against that bitch of a mother of yours.]”
Persephone let that one slide. He was upset. He was allowed to voice his frustrations in this instance. But one thing caught her off guard. "...she?"
Hades simply nodded, “[Yes. She couldn't even fight for me to have a complete family all the time.]”
"[Who are we talking about?]" Persephone was confused.
Now Hades was confused. Wait? She didn't know what they were talking about? “[Hestia.]”
Persephone was even more confused now. "[Okay so...what did Hestia do? And how does that relate to It?]"
“[I don't want to talk about it. I already explained it anyway.]” Hades closed his eyes. He liked it better when his burning anger filled his chest. It becoming sorrow was just a burdensome weight.
Persephone closed her eyes, putting the pieces together. "[My father tried to give Hestia to you?]" Why had she never heard about that before?
“[Correction. He had considered it and told her about it.]” Hades knew why he hadn't ever heard about it. Why would anyone tell him anything? Especially during his time as king. If people had bothered to visit him, he would have been much better off and that was clearly not allowed.
"[And neither told you...]" Persephone lowered her eyes, imagining what Hades was imagining. He could have been married to Hestia. And It never would have happened. They never would have happened. She knew shouldn't take it so personally, but he was regretting their union. That hurt. Still, she kept this all inside. "[That was cruel of them...you know I agree with you that my father doesn't wield his power well.]"
Persephone, nor anyone else, would ever accurately imagine what he imagined. He was amazingly able to separate events. He couldn't regret their union – it was his only feeling of love and comfort for centuries, but he could regret the beginning and always would. His eyes clenched shut tightly, “[She was afraid of being raped by Poseidon and Apollo, made a vow to safeguard her virginity and Zeus accepted that vow. And that door was shut. In the dark of solitude, I went mad and raped you. I fucking hate your father. I hope he gets hit by a god killing truck.]”
"[And worse, he lets her rescind her vows now. Lets her back into your life to complicate it and hurt you....I'm so sorry that you had to find this out Hades.]" She frowned, carefully moving to touch him again. "[You do not deserve this kind of pain and grief...]"
“[He probably didn't think she was going to do that. Your father and thinking aren't friends. I think Athena took that ability from him when she shot out of his brain.]” Hades eased just barely into that touch now. To feel her warm hand against him and to feel the calm that always seemed to surround her. “[But she didn't think she was going to do that either. She doesn't want to hurt me. It's not like she's some skilled seductress here.]”
"[Still...she had her chance,]" Persephone murmured, a small frown crossing her features. "[I wish this was all less complicated.]"
“[I don't do simple.]” Hades then opened his eyes and looked to her, “[Why are you here?]”
"[Because I want to see you safe,]" she murmured softly. "[You didn't look well and now I understand why. Poor dear Hades...]" She smoothed a hand over his hair.
“[But how did you know I was here... wherever here is.]” It dawned on him asher hand smoothed over his hair that he didn't know where he was.
"[I was walking,]" Persephone replied simply. "[Like you. I was thinking...]"
He suddenly grew concerned. Persephone was alone walking...“[What about Delaney?]”
"[Eurydice is watching her,]" Persephone reassured him.
And it did reassure him. He took a deep breath and visibly settled.
"[I wouldn't leave her alone without proper care...she's in good hands,]" Persephone murmured, placing her hands in her lap.
Softly, he reached out and moved her wet hair from her face, tucking it behind her ears. “[You can go home now. I think I'm okay and she'll try to convince Eurydice to give her ice-cream]”
Persephone watched Hades' face as he moved the wet hair from her face. The rain was beginning to pick up, coming down upon them even through the thick trees. He looked so sad like that, and all she wanted to do was comfort him. She cupped his face in her hands and kissed him hard.
Maybe it was all the time he had spent in England, but he still didn't really notice. All he noticed was her hands against his face and her lips against his. And he couldn't help but kiss her back, wrapping his arms around her to bring her close to him.
Lips still locked on his, she let herself be guided onto his lap. Her hands found a home in his hair. She didn't make a sound except for a few muffled moans against his mouth.
After a long moment, he broke that kiss, resting his forehead against hers . His hands roamed up her back, “[You don't mind that I'm just soaking up comfort right now, right?]”
Persephone licked her lips, catching her breath. "[I don't mind...]" She could tell he needed the comfort.
“[And this doesn't change anything and I'm not sleeping with you.]” But Hades didn't wait for a response. He didn't have time for such things when he kissed her again, deeply and possessively.
Persephone was beyond expecting such nice things. She could settle for this fling in the rain. Her body craved it. Her arms wrapped tightly around him as she continued to hungrily kiss him.
And Hades was beyond thinking about anything besides this fling in the rain. He didn't have any nice things to think about with all the sorrow clouding his mind. One of his hands was lost in her dark hair as the other rested and rubbed her hip, but he never stopped kissing her. He needed the comfort right now.
Summary: Persephone finds Hades on his rage!walk. She does everything she can to comfort him.
