Summary: Quinlan is working on his delivery wagon

Quinlan had already been to the general store that morning to purchase some supplies that he needed to fix his delivery wagon, and now he was carefully position just right underneath the cart of the wagon. He was busy trying to put on the new wheel and secure it.

The delivery wagon had been out of order since his incident the other afternoon when it had been raining. During a particularly heavier downpour, the thunder had spooked his horse causing it to try and take off. When this occurred, the wagon hit a metal gate and lodged on it, causing the front half of the wagon to skid into the muddy ditch. Talk about an awful afternoon! Not to mention the cut he had gotten on his hand from that metal gate when he was trying to free the wagon's wheel from it. His hand was still sore from the fairly deep wound, but he was doing much better.

Lying on his back, he wiggled more under the wagon to reach over and do his best to tighten bolts and whatnot on the new wheel. Hopefully he would get this finished up in not too much more time.

Robin had always gotten herself into trouble, whether or not it was on purpose was completely up to the subject. It's just the way she is.

Upon leaving the Heel Kicker, she accidentally managed to trip an older man. He plummeted to the ground with a rather loud thud, causing Robin to burst out in laughter. He in turn thought that this trip was purposely done. And although she tried to squeak out an apology and say that it was an accident through fits of giggles, the man wasn't going to take shit from a kid.

Luckily for her, he was rather fat. Impossible for this idiot to catch up, Robin, took off as he began to chase her down the road.

Great, she thought, This fat ass is going to sit on me and I'm done.

She skid to a stop, looking back as the man was wobbling his way over. He was no longer running; probably ran out of breath for the time being. But it seemed also that his vision wasn't too well. He frantically looked around, cursing up a storm that she could hear from the distance between them.

A smile crawled across her face as she turned and pinpointed a wagon near the Press Shop. She jogged over and dove under it, not expecting to see someone else joining her. She was only trying to hide.

"Uhh, hey," she said with an embarrassing smile, "How's it goin'?"

Quinlan blinked, looking over toward her before raising up on his elbows some. His brows furrowed with a hint of confusion as he very nearly came face to face with a woman under his wagon!

"Hi.." he cleared his throat and corrected himself, "I mean hello."

This was veeeeery interesting. There was a woman under his wagon and in the dirt with him.

He stared at her a moment before glancing down at his bandaged hand to check on it and then back up to her. "can I help you?..."

Deciding to get a little too cozy while under the wagon, Robin threw on a smile. Her eyes kept moving from him, up to where she last saw "fatty" looking around.. for her.

"Hm. Nah, I'm just trying to get away from him," she said, pointing over to where she could finally see him.

"I tripped him on accident and he's having a total fit about it. I guess all the lard in his ears made it hard to hear my apology." She shook her head and looked back at Quinlan. Yeah, so it was awkward, but she wasn't going to let it get to her.

"Are you like.. The printer guy that works here?" she asked, nudging her head towards the Press Shop. She wasn't sure whether the wagon just decided to take a crap here, or it's where he works.

Quinlan curiously stared at her and wiped his hands on his shirt before raising up some more on his elbows. Quinlan quirked a brow and followed her finger's direction to look ovre toward the little, round man. "Well... if you said anything like that to him, I don't blame him?" He gave her a bit of an inquiring smile.

He nodded, "Aye, I am," He motioned to the wagon, "I was just trying to get this wheel fixed before I have to deliver out more papers." what he really needed to do was hire some help!

She peered over at Quinlan with a brow perched higher than the other. Robin wanted to laugh, but couldn't bring herself to do so.

"I did kind of.. Laugh at him when he fell," she said with a shrug. She wasn't the only one who had, come to think of it. Why doesn't the guy just turn around and try going after them? Oh, right. Because she's "The Tripper."

"I see. So you're a paper boy," she kid. A thought struck her at this time, almost completely forgetting that she was hiding from someone. "What do you even print on the paper? I mean, does anything interesting happen around here or what?"

It was obvious Robin wasn't from around here. But from her short time so far she didn't see anything out-of-order enough to place on a newspaper.

Why did she want to laugh? Was she a hyena? She seemed to laugh a lot. Well.. she laughed at odd things anyway. Like laughing at a poor, chubby man falling. "If it was an accident that you tripped the man, why did you laugh and then run? Perhaps if you had apologized and offered to help the man back to his feet, he wouldn't be so perturbed."

Quinlan scrunched up his nose, "Not exactly... I own the company. I'm currently looking for a hired hand to help. That's the sort of thing that's in today's paper... advertisements for hired help. But usually it's just stories about adolescents tripping the mayor's brother." Quinlan glanced past the younger girl and watched roly poly man scurry around. He sighed and brought his arm up to wipe the sweat from his foreheard on the back of his sleeve, "looks like that's the headline for tomorrow's paper too."

"I laughed because it was funny," she started, sounding slightly irritated, "And I apologized.. While I laughed. He would have laughed had he been in my shoes. He seems like the ... You know, mean type or whatever."

Robin waved her hand, then let her head fall to the dirt. She wasn't sure whether or not this "headline news" deal was a joke about her or just some strange coincidence. She glanced up, wiping her forehead.

"It's plainly obvious I can't stand under this damn thing forever, right?" She asked rhetorically. Her eyes peered over at the man who seemed like he wanted to just give up. But he was so red in the face that perhaps he could stay up all night looking for her.

Robin began to slide out from underneath the wagon. She might as well try and say another sorry to the guy wobbling around, just to prove to Quinlan that she wasn't some little brat running around heckling people. She jerked her brows at him with a smirk and stood up.

There was no clue floating around as to how this man was going to react once he saw her. He could hit her, crush her, sit on her, slap her, shake her.. Anything. Or, he could accept her apology and go about his way.

Or she could just keep running.

"He is." Quinlan smirked, "brash sort of fellow." he studied the young woman with amusement and pointed to her forehead, "you missed a spot." what? she'd left a good portion of smeared dirt on her brow. He didn't want the poor woman running about with a dirty face. It didn't bode well for the female of the species.

"Aye.. well... you could," Quinlan scratched at his chin, "but I don't know how much good it would do you. Especially when I have to take it to deliver papers. Mister Grumpy might see you then, eh?"

He watched as the girl began to slip out from under the wagon and he quirked a very interested brow. She was going to confront her victim? Oh, this was going to be amusing... and it might be his turn to chuckle with amusement! He moved to crawl out from under the other side of the wagon, pushing himself to his feet and dragging the rag out of his pocket to wipe his hands on while he watch the girl take a few steps away from the wagon.

While Quinlan was interested as to see what would happen, he would never really allow the man to hurt the young woman, regardless. He'd step in. But until he saw any sort of negative physical contact... well, this was the best entertainment he'd had in a while! Other than Margaret May, of course.

Robin had tried her best to wipe the dirt from her face, but wasn't sure whether she had removed it all or not. That was the least of her worries. She didn't mind getting dirty.

With her hands spread on either side of her, she licked her lips and yelled. The idiot had his back to her.

"Hey! I'm right here. Maybe you should have tried looking in places that you couldn't fit in," she said. Of course, it sounded bad. Really bad. This only pissed him off more. She didn't care, however. If he wanted to wobble over with the speed of a snail then so-be-it. She'd just run.

Robin folded her arms against her chest as the man turned with baring teeth. She was done talking, having already dug herself a deep enough hole. He made his way over, heaving and waving his pudgy finger at her.

"Y'little brat! Trippin' me up then laughin'! I could snap you in half," he said, making a motion with his hands as though he were breaking an imaginary stick.

She stood there, a small smile on her face. He wouldn't dare touch her. "If you were listening, then you would have noticed that I apologized. I guess the loud thud you made overpowered it," she said, placing her hands on her hips now.

"Apologized?! Who trips a man then apologizes for it?!" He growled, reaching out and snagging her by the scuff of her shirt, "You're just some punk kid with a smart mouth."

Quickly, she reached out and grabbed his wrist, of course unable to remove it from her shirt. It was just instinct. She was literally fucked now. Unless somehow she slipped out of her shirt.. No.. She liked this shirt.

"Come on, this is my favorite shirt. If you rip it, I'll flip," she remained calm as she spoke, even using hand gestures as this large male tightened his grip. Alas, he said nothing, shoving her to the ground.

A spit and grunt after, he mumbled, "Don't let me see you again, kid. Otherwise--" he traced a finger across his throat and stood there for what seemed like a long time, glaring, staring, whatever he was doing.

"You know, you kinda have a lazy eye. I can't tell if you're looking at me or that wagon," she said, rubbing her elbows as she tried to sit up.

Well... that wasn't exactly what Quinlan had had in mind.. He winced slightly at the words she was exchanging with the man. Seriously? Was this girl seriously speaking the her elder that way? Regardless of what had happened. Things were definitely not calm with either of the two of them.

Quinlan's eyes widened with surprise when the man grabbed up the young woman by the front of her shirt. Before Quinlan intervened, the man had let her go, tossing her back to the dirt.

Quinlan made his way over to the two of them, "Sir.. perhaps you'd better just let this incident go... I doubt it will ever happen again, aye?" He offered his uninjured hand down to Robin to help her up.

Robin took a glance at her elbow. It was scraped; great. She scowled slightly up at the man then turned to see Quinlan up and near the two, with his hand extended.

She took his hand, pulling herself to her feet. She looked hurt, but wasn't going to say so. It was a fucking accident, why couldn't this guy just see that? Perhaps because she followed her apologies up with insults; that could be it.

The fat man looked over Quinlan, then the girl, spitting to the side with a look of disgust. "And you are you, her dad?" he asked, "Because if so, you should teach this kid some god damn manners."

"Manners?!" screeched Robin, stepping forth slightly, "How about the fact that you put your filthy hands on a woman? How about those manners?" She was one to talk, however.

Quinlan helped Robin back to her feet and quirked a brow when he saw the man spit and give them that look of disgust. "Well, No, sir," Quinlan shook his head, "I'm not. But even if I was, you really have no right to tell me what I should or shouldn't do, sir. Now.. I don't know the whole story.. but what little I know, I think this young woman accidentally tripped you. Though it wasn't originally intentional, she laughed. Now, sir.. While you and I both know that is horribly rude," Quinlan nodded, "I think she's learned her lesson."

Quinlan cringed a bit and rolled his eyes when Robin yelped back at the man again. "Aye sir... and y'probably shouldn't be goin' around and assaulting women. Regardless of their behaviour."

Robin stopped the moment she realized that she was the one starting to get a little out-of-hand. It was just that she couldn't help it, she'd always been this way so what was the point in trying to fix it? Some might say it was because of her father leaving, but she thinks otherwise. She doesn't really blame him, even though she still has no clue why her parents split in the first place.

She leaned back behind Quinlan, eyeballing the man standing before them. He looked like he didn't know what to say, nor do.

"Not her father, eh? Well, teach her anyways," he barked, swinging his arm around before laughing, "Women. Hitting a woman is the only way to get them to shut up and listen to me!" The man placed his hands on his large hips, running his hand down his exceptionally long graying beard. "'Specially the whores; they have to." His mood seemed to lighten from talking about such rubbish. Eying the girl then Quinlan, he turned and sauntered away.

"Geez, you'd think that one of those girls would have, I dunno... Kicked him in the balls or something. I mean, unless he's into that sort of thing," said Robin as she moved from behind Quin, shaking her head in the direction the man left.

Quinlan quirked a brow at the man's demand to teach this young woman some manners and then frowned at his comment about hitting women. Quinlan really didn't like this man, and he strongly disagreed with his opinions. However, Quinlan kept silent.

He waited until he was sure the man was finished and then watched a moment to make sure the man was really on his way again and then he turned to go back to his wagon to finish up his work.

"Aye.. You'd think." He knelt down to adjust the wheel some more, wincing when he used his injured hand a bit too much. He huffed and looked at his hand, carefully readjusting the bandage before continuing to work.

"But I do hope you'll see things a little differently in the future. If you trip someone.. on accident.. apologize and help them up, eh? Even if they're the meanest old bastard in the town."

"Pfft, yeah, I guess I will have to remember all of that," she said, shrugging her shoulders then shoving her hands into her pockets. She acted and seemed much younger than her age. But that didn't bother her; it is just the way she is - a tomboy kid, per say.

She turned to Quinlan, keeping her gaze everywhere else but his face. When her eyes fell upon the wagon wheel, her eyes took a small liking to his.

"Well shit, I should let you get back to your construction over there," she said, twisting her lips upwards and wrenching her hands from her pockets to cross her arms over her chest, "You know, so you could go wherever the hell it is your goi.. OH, you're delivering papers. Got it."

With that, she turned on her heel and began to walk away, calling out, "I'm Robin, by the way."

[IJ is evil! It never told me I got a tag!]

"Aye, ya will!" he smirked, studying her. She did act very young. He wondered how old she really was. She was certainly a tomboy... and still fairly young too. She behaved her age, whatever it may be. Very niave.

"Well, I was just finishing up so that I could take the papers to deliver them-- yes.." He eyed the young woman as he wiped his hands on the front of his shirt a bit.

He watched her turn to walk away and quirked a brow. What a confusing person! Quinlan stared at her a moment, but opted to call out, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Robin! Try to stay out of trouble, yeah?"

Robin waved her hand once more, but then paused. Why? Because she didn't bother to ask what his name was, nor did he give it. Suddenly, she stopped, backtracking her steps and backing herself towards him. She wasn't going to leave without knowing this guy's name.

"Deliver those papers, Mr.?" she asked, raising her brows with a smile. She would hope that from this he would realize that she was purposely trying to ask his name, only, without the proper question at hand. Shoving her fingers into her pockets, she pinched her lips, waiting in what looked like a very uncomfortable situation. It was apparent that he was much older than she, but that didn't matter. She only wanted to become an acquaintance.

He glanced back up to the young girl, "Hyde.. Mister Hyde, yes?" He straightened back up to turn more toward her, keeping his eyes on her.

"Aye and I will. Should be able to deliver 'em this afternoon, if I can get this wheel fixed." He gave her a bit of a wave, "I'm afraid I didn't catch your name, though... what was it, if you don't mind my asking?"

For a second Robin stood there, confused. She had already given him her name just moments earlier. Had he forgotten so quickly? Was he mental? Surely he could not have heard the name and it so obviously had gone out the opposite ear it entered.

"Um, Robin...?" she said in a sort of questionable matter. Staring at him was the only other thing she could think of to do.

"Maybe you shouldn't stay in the sun for too long next time," she added with the shake of her head and a chuckle, "Let's hope you remember my name from now on, or at least from now until the next minute that passes."

With that, she trotted off.

"Nice to have met you, Mr. Hyde!"
