Round Up a Posse!
Who? Nate and whoever else wants to help
When? Sat., July 6, Late morning
Where? Middle of town
What? Nate gathers up a group to go searching for Helene, Josie, and the outlaws.
Status: Incomplete

Nate was shaken to the core when the outlaws had come out of the bank using the lady doctor and Helene, his fellow deputy's sister, as human shields. He could do nothing but watch helplessly as the outlaws escaped with the women and the money from the bank. Had he fired, there would have been too much danger of injuring or even killing one of the women, and he couldn't risk that.

So the outlaws had made of with them, and Nate had to do something. He untied his horse from the hitching post outside the sheriff's office and rode into the main square of town, firing shots into the air, praying that people would come to help.

As people began to crowd the streets, the deputy yelled, "Outlaws! They've robbed the bank and taken the doctor and Miss Helene!" He was having a hard time making actual sentences, but he had so much information to share, and so little time. "Any men who can need to get horses and guns so we can go after 'em!"

How on earth would he explain to Deputy Ellwood that he'd let outlaws kidnap his baby sister on his watch? The other deputy would be angry... And Nate knew he deserved it.

The commotion had drawn Eli all the way from the stables, despite the fact that gunshots weren't the most auspicious of summons. He leaned against a nearby post and frowned at the deputy's little bit of news. New Shelby had had more than its share of trouble with bandits before, to hear tell of it, and a bank robbery in broad daylight was bound to cause a fuss.

"I can have a dozen horses saddled and ready to go in ten minutes," he called, raising his voice to make his offer heard. "All we'd need is men to sit them."

The deputy nodded his thanks to Eli, the first to speak up. "That's good, Eli," he said, nodding his head. "I'd appreciate that."

He knew that he needed to take as many men as possible, and the stablemaster's offer was more valuable than he could imagine. "I need as many men as can ride," he said, looking out over the small crowd who'd gathered around.
