Asking for a job or maybe just hanging out
Who: Mattie Ford - open
Where: The saloon
When: Just after sunset
Status: Incomplete

The trip over to the saloon wasn't very hard to do, after the sun had gone down, it wasn't too bad outside. Enough that Mattie didn't mind heading over there. But there seemed to be a bunch of butterflies in her stomach, fluttering around and she didn't know why. Well maybe it was because if it was a good time, she'd see about getting a job there, doing whatever. Plus it had been a while since she'd actually been in. Really, who needed to go somewhere to drink when you made your own stuff at home?

She pushed open the swinging doors and looked around, spotting several saloon girls and some men playing cards to one side. Mattie sighed and came inside, sitting down at one of the tables to wait and look around and see exactly what the situation was before she went and asked to see the man that ran the place.

(OOC: I was curious about Mattie getting a job, if the guy running the saloon is willing, otherwise she's just going to drink and play cards)

Stella deftly made the rounds throughout the saloon in between sets, avoiding the more grabby patrons with a practiced little swirl of her skirts, and chatting amiably with those who didn't seem inclined to get too fresh. The bruises on her face and arms had faded by now, and a bit of artful paint on her lips disguised the last vestiges of the split lip she'd suffered only three weeks ago, but it was a relief that she no longer felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up when a man's eyes lingered a bit too long.

She wove through the tables toward the bar, and started as she spotted a figure that was decidedly out of place. Barnum didn't really encourage women in the saloon, aside from those that worked there. They slipped in, of course, but there weren't many brave enough to risk a room full of men in various degrees of inebriation, some of them with violent streaks that tended to erupt into bar fights.

Curious, Stella changed directions until she was hovering at the young woman's elbow. "Brave soul, venturing into the inner sanctum of the men of town," she said with a wry laugh, arching a curious eyebrow at her. "Get you something to drink, miss?"

(OOC : Christine's on hiatus, and I'm not sure what happened to Sam, so Stella's the only saloon employee around at the moment, I think -- although she's not authorized to hire, sorry!)

At the sound, not to mention the feel of another person beside her, Mattie turned up her gaze to look and see who was there. Not that she was looking for any sort of man to come over to her, but she was relieved to see that it was a woman. Though truth be told, she was much better handling men then women. She couldn't help but grin slightly at the woman and her comment though, "Aye.. brave perhaps, or really stupid.." she ventured a gaze around.

She hm'd a bit, weighing the options of actually getting a drink. "I'll have a whiskey," she told her. "I was curious if the man that runs this place is around? And if he's not, perhaps when he'll be back?"

If the guy wasn't there, then she could at the very least perhaps ask the woman there what she thought of working in a place like this.

(OOC: Ahh okay, no problems :D)

"That would be Mr. Barnum Dagfinn," Stella answered with a smile. "He's not available at the moment, I'm afraid -- it's rather hit-or-miss sometimes, trying to catch him at a moment where he's not busy." She tilted her head at the other woman curiously. "If you'll give me just a moment, I'll fetch your drink," she added, and excused herself to loop by the bar.

It took longer than it should have to get two fingers of whiskey -- the saloon was busy of a Saturday night, and the barkeep was filling drink orders at a fairly constant pace. Stella finally claimed a drink for the young woman, and carried it back to her table.

"My apologies for the wait," she said dryly, setting the glass down on the table before her. "We're a bit busy at the moment, it takes a bit longer to do anything productive," she smiled. "I'm Stella, by the way -- is there anything in particular you'd like me to pass along to Mr. Dagfinn the next time I catch him?"
