There's a New World Waiting For You
On October 31st, 1999, a group of eco-terrorists released a biological weapon at every major airport in the world. The infected became sick, then violent and murderous. 50 hours after the first contagion was released, governments across the globe initiated states of emergency. Sites were designated as shelters with troops and Aurors sent to protect those sites at all costs. Those lucky enough to find shelter had to wait it out – the 28 long days for the infected to starve to death or kill each other in their madness. The world as you knew it is gone. Some remote areas are desolate nuclear wastelands. Cities are virtually devoid of life. Less than one percent of the total world population remains. Governments – both Magical and Muggle – struggle to maintain order and plan for the future of the human race. Rumors of a consolidated world government and now the Ministry has passed a Marriage Decree for the survivors. (We are Canon compliant up to day after Battle at Hogwarts).

In 2009, the world experienced a global outbreak of a new strain of influenza A/virus subtype H1N1, referred to as novel H1N1 and first identified in April. It was commonly known as swine flu in North America and Mexican Flu in Europe. Deaths were reported worldwide, and concern that the virus would progress and become worse escalated as the death toll rose.

In November 2009, the Netherlands developed the first medicinal treatment for victims of the virus. When it appeared to cure the symptoms, mass production of the drug was ordered just in time for distribution for the seasonal flu season. Within weeks of deployment, reports of returned symptoms hit the media.

People fled in mass exodus from the cities in an attempt to escape its reach, either to government-run evacuation sites or places of their own choosing, but by then it was too late. Instead of treating the virus, the drug attacked the body, allowing the virus to adapt and become a new strain of supervirus not even the original vaccine could prevent. It spread worldwide in a matter of days, with no amount of damage control stopping it. Only one in five hundred survived.

By April 2010 -- one year after H1N1's first reported case and a mere three months after the medicine was distributed -- the world goes silent. But if you listen closely, you might just hear the voices of the survivors.

PREMISE

WEST 57TH - THE SALISBURY HOTEL

Once, Compound One - comprised primarily of the Salisbury Hotel - the safest place to live in New York - possibly in the Infected wasteland of the United States. It is steadily becoming a prison to its inhabitants, a nation-state under the martial law of one zealous man. Those who remain try to stay alive amid the tyranny and injustice of the man who only seeks to "keep them safe" in Compound One. Residents disappear if they subvert - but to where? Are they cast out to battle with the cannibalistic horde? Or are the rumors of the Underground Railroad true? What of whispers of a cure for the Infection? Some survivors are too grateful for the relative safety to question - relieved, at last, to not have to fight for food, water, and shelter. Others remember a better time, when the safe zone was protected by a man with principle...

MANHATTAN WATERWAYS - THE ARMADA

The refugees, lead by Rory Teague, have found permanent solace on a fleet of sailboats. They are afforded mobility and relative freedom, after nearly a year on the run from the Dictator of the Salisbury. Teague, former leader of Compound One, still gathers survivors out of the city into this new water-borne life. But the refugees are never idle - their friends and loved ones remained trapped inside the walls of Compound One. With the knowledge that his people are safe for now, if trapped, Teague works to lay plans for his expanding armada. But the conflict with the Salisbury is never at rest for long - a war brews across the city. And help may come from the most unexpected of places...

URBANA LUXURY APARTMENTS - SAFE ZONE

Nestled quietly in the borders of an Infected-free area of the city, a small band of holdouts hide in the Urbana Luxury Apartments and debate whether to join the Compound. But they live under perpetual threat and harassment of having their freedom of choice revoked, simply because they wish to peacefully coexist. They are a faction divided: some wish to experience the comforts of the Salisbury. Others urge them to wait, to see, not to lock themselves away. In a time when mere survival is so important, mankind fighting against itself is sure to be destructive. Soon, the decision may be out of their hands. But the Salisbury guards have no idea, the force of will that awaits them in resistance...
