RETROFITTED :: An Excercise in Anachronism
Once upon a time (upon any time, actually, or no time at all), there was (is, will be) a city named Vespers and it is (was, will be) filled with people of all time, every time, and no time, all at once. You see, it's all about time and the way time flows. As time flows, sometimes things get lost-- and those lost things wind up in Vespers. Supposedly, Vespers is in Europe, but no one knows. No one can find it and, curiously, no one escapes. The city of Vespers is full of anachronisms, things outside every creatures era. Seeing these things and interacting with them, the people, the objects, the things makes people time-sick. Everyone gets time-sick in Vespers and everyone goes to the Provo Clinic to fix it, under the watchful eye of The Clock. What treatment entails, no one knows-- they put you to sleep for that little bit. But everyone knows the feeling, the symptoms. The shakes, the insomnia, the constant fear. That sneaking sensation that who you were one minute ago is watching you, and who you'll be in an hour is already ashamed of you. Or dead. Or worse. The madness-- this is the time-sickness and it is terrible. So now you're here. This is what you've become, where you've come to be-- but you can't shake the nagging suspicion that something very important to you is missing. Something, something... on the tip of your tongue, the very ends of your fingers, and you can never quite grab it. All you know is that sometimes, when you see something similar, you feel oh so hollow. Welcome to Vespers. |
