Nature is a haunted house-- Characters: OTA, multi-threads Setting: Museum of Modern Art, evening of 2/3 Content: Nothing questionable Summary: A museum event is interrupted by a swarm of mutant wormhole bees.
The Museum of Modern Art was just outside the evacuation zone of one of the predicted wormholes, and so the organizers opted to carry on with the gala scheduled for the evening, despite the minimal danger. Still, extra security was hired for the front doors as an added precaution (although the hulking men in their suits all agreed on the way over that if it came to it their paychecks were not be devoured by monsters to protect a bunch of rich assholes at an art gallery). Invitations for the evening were sent out to art collectors, wealthy socialites, patrons of the museum's membership program, frequent donors, and, as the city's most well known super-heroes, the Avengers (though grudgingly, given their recent PR nightmare).
The black-tie event was situated in the largest special exhibition gallery, on the museum's highest floor. Works of art and sculptures were displayed throughout the gallery, depicting superheroes and villains, artists' visions of the constant struggle between good and evil. As the party got under way, the Director made a speech to try and drum up more donations, a few artists in attendance discussed their work, and then the guests were free to mingle, provided with a buffet of hors d'oeuvres and smartly dressed servers with trays of champagne. The museum director and party organizers were optimistic that things would go smoothly tonight.
