"Son of a bitch," Nick growled when the motherfucker just up and vanished. Nick muttered instructions into his headset; calling for a team to gather up the ashes of the monsters for study, telling someone to liaise with Damage Control about repairs to the cracked street and bullet-pierced buildings, and connecting with media relations to make sure the quashed any news of the other-dimension guy's disappearance. Last thing they needed was the city panicking, and despite the fight Nick had the impression that the creature was different.
The guy was monstrous, sure, but Fury didn't think he was a "monster". Not like the mindless destructive beings appearing in the city in the last year, not even like the beasts the creature had brought through the portal with him. He'd shown human intelligence, and that was more dangerous than any lizard-brained monster. And he could be anywhere now. They had a super-powered psycho loose in the city. But then, that constituted a lot of the city's population.
The set back was annoying, but Fury figured they'd catch the guy soon enough; people were pretty likely to report if some fiery asshole was wreaking havoc in the city. Nick headed for the portable command center; he had a search to coordinate. So much for going to the fucking carnival.
